Before I say anything, I haven't seen what he said so take that as you will. But if xQc did say something fucked up regarding Muma and his sexuality that is totally unacceptable and I'm glad he's benched. Homophobia doesn't have a place in any sport (or anywhere for that matter) and even if it was something said without thinking in a heated moment I hope everyone can learn from this. You are now a public figure and everything you say in public will be scrutinized. While you may not like that, its the fact of the matter, so hopefully xQc and everyone else in the OWL/esports as a whole will learn from this and think before speaking. Especially when speaking on things like someone's sexuality/race/gender, it never goes over well.

(edit) Watched the clip and its not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But again think before you speak, you're kind of a public figure now and people won't let that shit fly. Also hats off to Muma for the respectable and level headed response.

Of course it isn't my place to say whether he deserves more or less punishment, but I think what's not being recognized is how snide it was.

Personally I think what he actually said was pretty mild, but the fact that he tried to act like it was an accident is pretty annoying, basically pulled an r/oopsididntmeanto. It's childish and passive aggressive, pretty typical among NA gamers, especially pros.

If they want OWL to flourish, they need to take these matters very seriously. This kind of behavior paints a very bad picture for esports players in general. They need to learn what it means to be professional, and that doesn't mean act differently on social media but being more aware that you're not just a streamer now but a paid professional athlete.

What he said may not have been a big of a deal, and Muma just brushed it off. But imagine if someone like LeBron James said that toward an openly gay NBA player.

An apology from xQc is just not enough. If he truly wants to succeed in life he needs to understand that this kind of stuff is not ok. Not even from a personal level but from the fact that this is now his job and professional life and his actions affect more than just him now.

Sorry that's not how this works. There should be consequences for your actions. Whether it be a fine or benched for a game or two whatever, there should be consequences.

There is A LOT of money and big names behind these teams (nearly a quarter billion JUST in team signing fees), and now in Fuels case their name is tied to his comment / conflict whether he likes it or not. When he puts on that jersey or puts the Fuel name on his stream he is directly representing that jersey and name to the public. There are MILLIONS of people watching the players now, this isn't some small few thousand viewer two bit stream anymore. If I had my name on that jersey I'd be pissed that this player was acting the way he has been.

This is business and xQc has made mockery of the opportunity he's being given and he can't take it for granted because there are a lot of other people who would love to have the opportunity to take his place and put on the Dallas colours.

He needs to learn that it's not just him in the spotlight in his stream anymore, it's the team and teams sponsors, as well as Blizzard themselves and at the end of the day the investors are the ones that truly call the shots. He cannot represent this business acting the way he has been.

At the end of the day I want Blizzard, the Overwatch league and all the OWL players to succeed and that includes xQc but he's really not doing himself any favours with these outbursts on his stream. EDIT - I should also mention that my comments apply to all of the players in OWL not just xQc.

They picked XQC 'cause he's a completely different tank than Cocco, one is aggressiv the other is more of a peeling/defending one.

The other reason for picking up XQC, it's his stream, OWL is all about visbility and marketability, he's amongst the top streamers, helped that he could also fill at a decent level a spot that was empty for the Fuel.

Bearing that in mind, XQC should really learn how to moderate himself on stream, since as much as he brings viewers to the game he now also risks of painting a bad image on the Fuel, and they won't permit it (you know, visibility)

Because being a homophobic asshole is approximately 1/30th as serious as boosting players on ladder. The fact that xQc continues to be let off so easily when he is so clearly a negative influence on the integrity of the league is stupid.
Edit: 4 game suspension + a fine is definitely enough to send a message. I hope xQc learns from this experience. Sado's 30 game suspension is still inconsistent with everything else Blizzard has done, but this suspension occurring during the season on such a high-profile player demonstrates Blizzard's attitude towards player professionalism.
Edit 2: The full stage suspension by Dallas Fuel seems odd given that nothing about the situation has changed since they gave him the one-match suspension, but I guess they want to reiterate their commitment to professionalism to their sponsors. Sado still should not have been suspended for 30 games.

xQC has always displayed incredible levels of immaturity in his streams, and while he may say it’s his “streamers personality” or whatever excuse you want to give to it, I really think that they should come down hard on him to really send him a message to either change your attitude or find yourself no longer apart of OWL. A big fine and bigger suspension should suffice, honestly if they don’t fine him though i doubt anything will change from it because just a suspension won’t have the same impact as taking away some of the money he’s earned from his contract. It’s definitely a privaledge being apart of OWL and I hope they don’t take this lightly.

I think it's less that trash talk is bad (I love trash talk and I think esports needs more of it) just that this should be a learning experience for everyone involved that maybe watch what you trash talk about. People who may have previously said whatever they want now have to understand that not everyone is cool with that and change accordingly. People may not like it, but unfortunately they either have to change how they act or accept being seen as a villain of sorts.

xQc probably isn't homophobic. He may be a spaz and doesn't think before he starts ranting but I don't think there's malcontent in his heart when he says things like this. I just see a dude who is really frustrated that his team isn't winning and that frustration lead to him saying something in the heat of the moment.

And just as and aside, reprimanding people for smaller offences doesn't water down responses when something bad happens for real. Just as long as the punishments are skewed accordingly to the crime.

Yeah you make some excellent points.

I was pushing against some of the over the top reactions that we've seen in this thread. For the most part though the response has been proportionate and the punishment handed out to him by Blizzard goes along that line too. My worry is that we end up in a witch hunt situation over something that should and probably will be forgotten about in a few weeks.

I don’t think xQc does much wrong. He plays a character, he and plenty of people around him have said that his humor isn’t serious. He did a Tracer 1v1 against Dafran, and obviously he lost. But he called him garbage at the game and such. xQc has played against Dafran he knows how good he is he’s just doing it as a joke. And because people watch him I think it just reinforces his behavior. I know xQc doesn’t mean what he says most of the time. Throwing to games on Koth is bad but shouldn’t be the end of the world. He should definitely be more careful with what he says, but I guarantee you that he doesn’t really mean most of what he says

Talk about one of the best OW teams period going to absolute shit, signing a famous player who hasn't played competitive for so long and then signing probably the most immature player in OW period who gets punished left and right all the while struggling to win even 1 map out of a possible 4, pretty sure they fucked up hardcore with these two popularity signings and now with the drama xQc is bringing into the team is coming back to haunt them.

Say what you want about this time being "mild" it's the fact it's consistently happening which is the main problem, doing 20 small things that constantly bring your team into the spotlight isn't any better than doing 1 big thing.

Interestingly enough he seems to still be actively banting on twitter. Whether that's good or bad depends on how much press he/his team/blizzard want him to have at all right now.

Personally I think he'd do well to just get away from the game entirely for a little while for his own well being and come back stronger and, hopefully, somewhat more mature...or at least being able to better handle the environment that OWL puts these guys in.

Esports and the internet is notoriously rude and offensive.

xQc is a kid, he isn't even funny and he overreacts for attention. He's a classic attention seeker in this regard. When you stream and act as he does, which is ridiculously childish and over the top for his viewers, you probably get lulled into a false sense of security - see Pewdipie.

It isn't a case of whether Muma is offended or not, if you think this is relevant you haven't a clue. This is about Dallas, Hersh and Blizzard. xQc is a little boy and his behaviour goes against the grain of what Blizzard are selling, what Hersh have back and what Dallas needs. The kid is toxic when not in game, on stage. OWL is a business, kids creating reasons for the business to be attacked needs to be routed out.

Using homophobic slurs doesn't mean you're a homophobe, it means you're an idiot perpetuating years of oppression and hate. I fully support Blizzard's fine and ban, Dallas' move is commendable also, but that's just a PR stunt.

I definitely think he deserves some form of punishment; that being said the OWL is still in it’s infancy, not even 3 weeks in, and since xQc has been on the Fuel he’s had his account suspended TWICE and now this. The punishment is for all of those things, he fully deserves the Stage 1 suspension.

Calling it an "agenda" makes it way more than what it is.

You can call it bandwagoning, but has been there since the birth of human society, we tend as human beings to "flock together", in big groups you tend to feel more safe, so free to express all the shit you usually keep to yourself.

Add to that the anonymity of internet and you get an explosive mix.

What he meant by it and what come across are not the same thing. You can MEAN anything you want by what you say but it still matters what other people got from it and the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The problem here is demonstrated by the fact that although Muma did nothing wrong (he didn't make xQc get in trouble or anything) he still has people calling him offensive names and other things now.

Words are powerful bro. While to most of us reasonable people, it doesn't mean much, there are many, many unreasonable people that words like these mean a great deal to. These people take the acceptance of this sort of language and use it for cruel things. It's not a joke and it's very real. There are LGBT people literally being beaten and murdered all over the world simply for being who they are. While xQc is not directly responsible or can even take blame for it, it is a cog in a very large machine. The only way to dismantle the machine is to remove the cogs which xQc can choose to do by not demeaning people in ways that are aimed at LGBT or anyone (mentally disabled people, people of color, women, etc). He simply could've said, "Muma should fuck off" "Muma got carried by Linkzr" or "Muma is an idiot" or any number of other insults and none of those are offensive beyond insulting Muma.

Don't tolerate this shit because it is a very real problem and being an apologist is almost as bad as doing it yourself.
