Rogue had this to say in their official announcement:
Today we're sorry to announce that we will be breaking up the current #RogueOW roster to allow the players to pursue spots on OWL teams. We did everything we could to get the team a spot in OWL, including procuring the buy-in money and going through the whole approval process. Unfortunately, we were not accepted for Season 1 and had no option but to break up the most accomplished Overwatch team in the game's history so that the players could accept offers. We will continue to pursue putting together more great teams in the future and hope next time to be able to keep what we've worked so hard to build.
The organisation's failure to secure a spot in the Overwatch League was known after Blizzard announced the finalized list of teams competing in Season One. Some members of the team have been receiving tryouts with Overwatch League franchises, although aKm has publicly expressed his frustrations with not receiving tryouts despite his reputation as one of the best hitscan players in the game.
Rogue has been one of the most storied franchises in Overwatch's short history, with multiple tournament victories dating back to just after the release of the game. Since claiming TaKeOver in May of last year, the organisation has seen continued success with first place finishes in the Atlantic Showdown, the APAC Premier, three Monthly Melees, the Overwatch Rumble, TaKeOver 2, the Beat Invitational, and other high placements in other tournaments. Winz, aKm, and uNKOE were with Rogue since its entry into Overwatch. A three way trade with Misfits and Luminosity Gaming saw Swedish players TviQ and Reinforce replaced by SoOn and skipjack, which eventually led to an all-French Rogue lineup following the departure of Skipjack and the addition of NiCO.
However, Rogue had fallen on hard times since attending Apex Season 3. Placed in what came to be known as the 'group of death', Rogue failed to advance to the next stage of the tournament after losses to Kongdoo Panthera and Lunatic-Hai. A period of success after returning to the West, most notably being their victory at TaKeOver 2, was disrupted by visa issues during Contenders Season One. These issues placed the team in an environment that hindered their ability to compete for the majority of Season 2, which ultimately proved fatal to their playoffs hopes.
Rogue's final roster was:
- Terence "SoOn" Tarlier (DPS)
- Dylan "aKm" Bignet (DPS)
- Nicolas "NiCO" Moret (Flex)
- Jean-Louis "KnOxXx" Boyer (Tank)
- Benjamin "uNKOE" Chevasson (Support)
- Michaël "winz" Bignet (Support)
- Philippe "Lanf3ust" Rivain (Coach)
