Slavery 2.0

It's been a while since our last recruitment drive, but I'm always on the hunt for a few good slaves. We run a tight ship here at over.gg, with just a handful of people working to chronicle the tales of the burgeoning global professional Overwatch scene, but we need your help to do more and do it better.

The most time intensive task is still the live updating of the match ticker. If you watch a lot of live tournament streams you might consider helping us capture detailed results or maybe you are a VOD junkie and might be interested in keeping our match archives up to date?

The match ticker is not for the fainthearted. You don't get the kudos of being a writer, the hours are terrible and sometimes you barely even get to enjoy the game(s!) you are watching. You have to be a special kind of nerd for this work, but if you possess a love of the monotonous and a burning desire to painstakingly document the world this might be your calling.

There are essentially two of us working to cover all the pro matches happening globally, although we only manage cover a fraction of what is going on at any one time. I'd love to build a larger team to cover more (and sleep more!). Covering NA matches all night is detrimental to my health (not just because of the garbage plays), so feel free to come to my rescue. Obviously I'd love to hear from you if follow the European and Asian scenes (maybe even ANZ and South America if there is interest?). If you speak Korean or Chinese I will suck your dick.

I also think we can do a better job with our written coverage. We have lists upon lists of stories that could be covered and those are only the ones we know about. Whilst we have fabulous wordsmiths like Sideshow and Harsha churning out the Reddit bait on the regular, I think someone with an aptitude for writing short news stories in a timely fashion could add a lot to our current coverage. Again, bonus points if you can decipher the Asian scene.

Although I've tried to be specific, don't let me tell you what you can do. There are a plethora of other ways to contribute to the rise of the over.gg empire if you are creatively minded.

Heckling from my ivory tower, here goes: please make the site open source and allow pull requests from the community. This allows you to choose what features get added but allows much more contribution than through suggestions only. There are quite a few features I would like to see added, which I might just implement myself if possible.

Not gonna lie, I would be very interested in at least updating match tickers, maybe some short updates. I recently been analyzing some matches on my own, and have been sharing some of my views here. This site is how I got into professional OW in the first place, so I want to help it grow. I hope you can employ a filthy casual like myself.

I could help with the match tracker for games that are easily accessible for GMT timezones as well as occasionally help out with NA tournaments if somebody who normally covers them is MIA. I've been keeping up with all the OGN Apex games and have occasionally watched challengers and would be willing to follow it (although I can't speak Korean). I can cover basically 8am - 1am GMT every day. Tomu#0054 on discord if you want any more info.

may I translate and repost this recuitment article to a chinese forum called NGA? it's the major chinese forum for overwatch afaik, although I am not a big fan of the CNOW scene, perhaps someone on NGA might be interested in promoting the CNOW tourneys.

I am in favor of community contributions to over.gg's source code, however maybe there are good reasons the team keeps it closed source atm? I don't know what all of those might be, just putting that point out there because I don't want to the work on this site go to waste.

i work full time tho, so the only times i could really do updates of live games would be between 3:30am and 8:30am EST during weekdays or any time during the weekend.

In response to Raz9r, seaDee and hugo re: developer contributions and going open source, it's not something that we are considering at present.

We definitely appreciate people's enthusiasm and offers of help, but for the foreseeable future site development will continue to be a closed operation.

I've been sticked to this game since last May and owning CN/US servers' accoounts is not an easy task.I've known the game quite well with a master ranking(winky face) I'm not the guy who follows every single heavy match in overwatch but I do cover APEX and matches of NRG, Cloud 9 and MY(a chinese team). It will be a pleasure for me to cover the asian zone since I'm free before my college life. A buddy who is an elite in Chinese/English is willing to offer you a rescue
