Scary for NV /:
should be close. consensus seems to be that envy could lose dramatically but i don't think that's true. i think meta athena is a lot better than they're credited for and that loss doesn't necessarily mean anything versus LH.
also esca has been playing poorly this tournament. i expect it to become more obvious in a match as close as this and probably a liability
(rooting for LH ^_____^)
Severely outclassed in CP doesn't really help with these map(mode) options APEX is using. Having 2 moderately close games and then forced to play a mode your opponent is clearly better on doesnt really seem like the best system for OW. :(
On the positive note, it was good seeing more heroes used by nV, hopefully they have better results in the losers route of this group stage.

I don't think not being good at a gamemode is an excuse they'd use. Teams in whatever game will always specialise in certain maps, it just happens a lot of the Korean teams are good at CP.

Yes exactly, i'm more referring how different it would be with a more wide pick/ban system where you actually had a choice on picking mode you have a better chance on winning. That i believe is the accepted norm now, if you loose, You get to pick a map(in other games at least), you are strong on.
In the current APEX format, you can't really do that as you're forced to play a specific game mode, and as it came to be with these teams and the format sequence. nV had to win numbani to have a chance to potentially win again on 4th map.
This is highly speculative of course, and there are things they could've have done in this matches i'm sure to win regardless of these assumptions.
SoftWhisper [#18]Practice less envy.
At this form you wont win a tournament in the NA.
Wins 2 lan tournament in 7 months, stop practicing start celebrating.
Kid yourself. Envy just lost to probably the best team in the world, they should still be able to annihilate any NA team

lmao not if theyre incapable of running dive comp. every team back in na has a great projectile player and a capable zarya, which are two gaping holes in envyus' lineup. misfits and rogue should be able to roflstomp them in a similar fashion, and i could see c9 giving them a run for their money especially if they keep improving with their coach.
viewers losing a sense of proportion here due to little international tournaments
envy would stomp every NA team right now (aside from maybe rogue but there's nothing to sample from). tier 1 KR isn't comparable to tier 1 NA. might look like the same overwatch when viewing but it's really a separate league
also isn't hammers the team that had put up the best fight vs rogue thus far, only after swapping to 4 tanks? maybe that's old news

yeah hammers lost to rogue 3-1 but it could have easily been 3-2.

envy doesnt have to run dive comp to beat na teams.

We will see once bastion patch hits apex (should be 2nd matches) and when the orisa patch drops. I do agree they need to have a better defense against dive but thats every team regardless. Once all the teams come back, it will be fun to see how the NA teams compete leading up to OWL.
I did like how NV switched it up, they had a plan, and it somewhat worked, you can see it, just too bad it didnt go their way.
Envy and misfits are in a different category from every NA and EU team. Fnatic is basically garbage. Clown 9 showed they can potentially challenge envy/misfits given a bit of time with their new korean coach, who is awesome. When it comes to KR teams, they are better than nv/misfits at the very top, but it's competitive. But basically all your chavs/eunited/nip/immortals/fazes are utter trash. Rogue.. we'll see. No one really knows yet, maybe somewhere around c9 level given their AMM performance.
But bottom line is KR will dominate. During the insight on esports youtube show with thorin and monte, with bishop, bishop basically floated a philosophy that when teams have more fun they have a higher ceiling (he said he left the KR scene and joined an NA team as a coach because it was too stifling and basically depressing working within an SK org). That unfortunately has always been false in every real world sport. The best olympic, soccer, basketball, tennis, mma performances have come from an awful lack of fun in preparation. I doubt the west will ever be on top in OW again, but they will have teams that don't look like they shouldn't even be there.
