Team EnVyUs announced today in a YouTube video that Talespin is stepping down from the roster. The announcement says that they are searching for a dps replacement.
Talespin has been a member of the team since they joined EnVyUs, and has been a formidable dps talent in North America since beta. He leaves the team just as they enter the playoffs for OGN APEX Season 1.
This move sheds light on Rogue's decision to pick EnVyUs in the Quarter Finals of APEX, where aKm stated that nV had visa issues and therefore would not be able to practice as much. The result of this whole situation is that Rogue and EnVyUs will be playing on Monday, but the replacement dps for nV is unknown and may have to be temporary.
EnVyUs and Talespin have been contacted for comment and we will update accordingly.
UPDATE:
Talespin released a statement on twitlonger which read in part:
Long story short, I wasn't happy being on the team. There's a lot of things that added up to that but unfortunately most of that will have to remain private.
I will not be quitting Overwatch. For now I'll be streaming more often and seeing what opportunities arise while taking a small break since starting to grind the game over a year ago back in closed beta.
I am not opposed to joining another team but I am also not in a rush.
If I had to offer up a (vague) explanation for leaving it would be that I felt like the effort I put into the team wasn't being matched by certain people. For example, it was very difficult staying motivated when you're sitting there for hours going over maps and strategy and you realize you've been talking to yourself and maybe one or two others chiming in occasionally while everyone else is "listening". I also had some issues with a some irresponsible behavior that happened fairly often but I won't go into that. Needless to say, traveling 5k miles to stay in another country for weeks while dealing with issues like these on a daily basis can lead to being burned out twice as fast and it got to the point where it felt like it wouldn't change and I had to make a decision for myself. Maybe it was unrealistic for me to expect every player to match my level of effort but at this level of competition I felt like it was what we needed to do and we weren't. As I said before there were a lot of other things that added up to this decision but this was the heart of it.
I didn't step down because we were losing to a couple teams or anything like that, dealing with losses is part of the job. Honestly, even during our slump we were still doing very well in the grand scheme of things. And I absolutely did treat this as a job and, while you don't need to like the people you work with, you need to feel like everyone is doing their part. To be honest, in their own way, I believe most of the team was doing what they considered to be their best way of improving and handling practice, but I guess I just had a different mindset of what that should be. So in the end I didn't feel like I belonged and would be happier stepping down.
Just some ending thoughts here about my teammates: Harryhook is an awesome person to have on a team, he is always ready to win and one of the most reliable people I've played with. Chipshajen is honestly one of the nicest people I've ever known, he never has anything bad to say about anybody. I couldn't ask for a better support to have my back. Cocco is always trying his best, whether it be in the middle of a game or during a strategy session you can always rely on him to be there and share his opinion. Hulk has a great overall game sense and was my main sounding board for strategy ideas and discussions, he gets a lot of flack for not be the most mechanically skilled but he does everything he can to make up for it. Taimou... has good aim.
The incomplete EnVyUs roster is now:
- Dennis "INTERNETHULK" Hawelka (flex)
- Timo "Taimou" Kettunen (dps)
- Christian "cocco" Jonsson (tank)
- Sebastian "chipshajen" Widlund (support)
- Jonathan "HarryHook" Tejedor Rua (support)
