map 4 should be route 66, right? https://overwatchleague.com/en-us/match/10376
Especially hilarious given Jeff Kaplan's reply to him just 3 days ago
The main thread for these requests is here :)
Thanks for the responses!
Since no one has posted any detailed evidence or explanations either way, I'll disregard the statements I linked to (as well as all other sweeping generalizations about "regional meta dynamics") for now.
Any details on this?
it seems that KR is typically slower to adopt "new metas" if they're not forced to
Or do they just copy from Western teams and run it better?
I've seen this claim a few times but I don't follow enough pro play to get it.
In particular I would appreciate if anyone can post some detailed evidence (tourney / match links).
Thanks and have a great day!
Some of this is because the spectating experience is not ideal. Recently (world cup) blizzard has been making some improvements to this but there's still a long way to go.
A contender for the most well-known play in OW esports:
No demo system and no in-client spectating for non-official broadcasters (aka ordinary fans) was announced. So these features are a very long time away, if they are even in the works. Well, it's probably asking too much from Blizzard.
Not announced so will be a long time if it ever happens
Just like demo system I guess
Seems too much to ask for, RIP
Will we ever be able to watch games from our own client though?
That's a hilarious contract clause. NRG rule or Blizzard rule?
is there a vod for this?
repeat of Apex finals?

interesting article but i wonder if he could dig up some stats about how much support fleta was getting from the team compared to other dps players, e.g. % heals received, since some teams base their whole playstyle around giving certain players room (not necessarily saying that is the case here, just curious about the data).
ur def already on the list; i've gone to your stream a bunch from here before.
You can also see it on this list
C9 vs AF Blue in apex season 2
Seems like an unfair way of distributing prize money since a single elim bracket only gives you any confidence that the winner is the best team (at least they're undefeated). Anything after 1st really just depends on the seeding into the bracket which depends a lot on the RNG of which group the teams end up in.
Having watched a lot of fighting game tournaments (which are almost without exception double elim) I gotta say it's pretty hype when someone makes a deep run from loser's. Of course matches are a lot shorter but that argument doesn't work for say dota 2.
Wondering what people's thoughts are on this, it seems like pros just accept it, so maybe there's something I'm missing. Please no upfrag I don't want stars and it seems the downvotes on my old posts don't get rid of my progress.
In the interview M17 are saying that they had heard that MT was really strong and that MT had been beating some strong Chinese teams so they were really nervous coming into the match.
sweet, thanks! here's another post to dfrag
Is there a way to get rid of stars or do i have to make a new alt?
These situations are why single-elim generally sucks. I don't think it will come into play here though.

Section 13.0 of the rules also says ". Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of Blizzard and
Organizer, which are final and binding in all respects. Blizzard reserves the right to change these Official
Rules at any time, in its sole discretion, " so yeah

I might have missed them in the list but the signup deadline has passed, so zero?
edit: of course, they might get invited again by Blizzard
The first matches of the OW Open Division start very soon (varies by region, but Jul 3 for NA region and Jul 8 for western Europe region). Though the tournament itself is probably too minor to get covered here (top prizes are $50 per player in Blizzard bucks), apparently the top teams play in promotion matches for Contenders S2 (presumably just for NA and EU regions, and the KR region is already integrated into APEX): https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/6kngbn/contenders_s1_starts_august_14th_six_weeks_long/djndiha/?context=3&st=j4lo6ivi&sh=701b1c60
Even though Blizzard is outsourcing the tourney organization to ESL, Faceit, etc. I think their first foray into entry-level tourneys for comp OW / future OWL is worthy of its own thread.
There are 170 teams in the NA region and I only recognized Tempo Storm and CLG on the list, though I only skimmed it very quickly: https://play.eslgaming.com/overwatch/north-america/overwatch/major/overwatch-open-division/season-1-regular-season/contestants/#!?type=name&order=asc
There are like 30ish teams in SEA, Aus / NZ, and SA regions and I don't know enough about the scenes to see if any of the teams are good. https://play.eslgaming.com/overwatch/
The eastern Europe division teams are here (40 or so?). Don't know anything about this scene either, sorry: https://overwatch.starladder.com/ru/season1
The western Europe teams are here (151 teams). I only recognized Alfa Squad, but there are probably other notable teams in there too: https://www.faceit.com/en/championship/51facfc8-c45a-4ec1-99a3-9161d72b535c/OVERWATCH%20OPEN%20DIVISION%20WESTERN%20EUROPE/teams
Feel free to share your thoughts, predictions, etc. in this thread.
Anyone here playing in this tournament? Let us know what your experiences are like!
I'm actually more concerned for the NA matches tomorrow. Although Blizzard hasn't released anything about OW contenders season 1 prize pool, the (very likely off-stream) 5th-8th decider matches between the losers are arguably more consequential than the semifinals / grand finals.
Hope Blizzard surprises me...
Did they made a public statement, or is this more of Admirable's patented OW cast future-vision?
Since there's a difference in prize money between 5th/6th and 7th/8th, doesn't there have to be a round of loser's matches? I think we were assuming this but it was never confirmed officially. If they happen I guess they are off stream, but will we be able to find out the result here?
nvm, just saw the match links:

https://www.over.gg/4697/misfits-vs-rip-contenders-season-zero-europe-playoffs-5th-8th
I count this as another overgg success story - Blizzard scrambling for a distraction!
Harsha, you've done it again!
Right, but everyone seems to be saying that there's only a single-elim bracket in the playoffs, and those cannot distinguish between the bottom 4 places.
This is weird because in the official rules section 9.2.4 and 9.2.5 there are different prizes for 5th and 6th place as compared to 7th and 8th

Hammers Kung was actually 2-2
here we go
incoming scripted RNG 3-1 C9 and Hammers 2-2 Kung draw
yep
2-1 for Hammers, the C9 dream is real
No, the only way there can be a tie-breaker is if Kung-Hammers tie and C9 loses 1-3 here. If C9 gets 2-2 here then they will get 2nd seed if Hammers beats or ties Kung, otherwise they are out.
pray for Hammers my dude
