It's been six months and a day since I last encouraged you all to voluntarily enslave yourselves to the over.gg cause. Since then we've survived the death of Overwatch on at least one occasion, and probably tried to kill it on several others.
More people than ever have been contributing to the rise of over.gg, but at present our grand ambitions are tempered by our capacity to get things done in a timely manner. I need your help.
The crew recently went through a brutal purge, the survivors can attest. You might still see a long list of blue names on Discord, but don’t be fooled, as with any undertaking it's usually 20% of the people doing 80% of the work. So I'd especially like to appeal to those hardworking, conscientious types that know how to get things done (please teach me how) and less to those greasy nerds trying to slide in to #protalk (smh).
We've got some great new features almost ready to launch and even more in the pipeline. Player profiles and more detailed event pages are two of big ticket items. As our feature set has expanded over time some gaps have appeared regarding the level of detail we have captured for events, teams and players in our database. At present we are systematically working through our records to make sure they up to scratch so we can roll out the new features ASAP.
I'm looking for a few dedicated souls who enjoy working with facts and figures. Part data input monkey, part perfectionist Rain Man-esque savant; you hate it when things aren't accurate, orderly and complete. If you can relate and/or think you can help, stand up and be counted.
And that's just one very pressing need we have right now. I'm always on the lookout for more bodies for the esports meatgrinder. We need news writers, match tickerers and loose-lipped billionaires to help us tell the story of Overwatch.
Every time someone refreshes over.gg and there is no new content a cute puppy dies. Only you can save them by helping us put out more news and cover more tournaments. As an aspiring news writer, you feel an uncontrollable urge to document the history of Overwatch esports as it unfolds hour by hour, providing context to every happening in the scene great and small, whilst weaving a narrative that entertains and inspires. Get in touch if you’ve got the thirst.
As always, bonus points for being embedded in any of the mysterious, non-English speaking scenes; China, Japan, Korea, Australia, etc. Even within our North American and European heartland we know there are tournaments and teams that go unreported on over.gg, so if you are passionate about your scene, wherever that may be, perhaps you want to help us bring it to a global audience.
We’ve often been compared to the HLTV.org of Overwatch and roughly speaking that is our goal, but to get there we need to do more, more, more!
- More news, reported in a timely fashion
- More written tournament coverage - previews, live coverage, recaps, final standings
- More data captured - events, teams, players, matches
If you want to get involved respond here or contact me on the over.gg Discord.
