My problem with Overwatch

Recently I have taken a break from Overwatch (about a month). Partially this was due to school, but mainly I didn’t find the game fun. My intitial reason was because mercy angered me so much that I didn’t want to play the game anymore. I played games like csgo and fortnite, games where people were literally laughing together about team killing, in this time. When I saw the World Cup, I became a bit more motivated to play the game again, and I desided that I should try it out again. After several rounds of quick play to warm up, my friends and I played my first comp game in a long time. I join in, see that we have two tanks and two healers, so I played genji, my best hero, on Numbani defense, and one player asks if I should be doing it and I said, “yes, he’s my best hero.” He then goes on to make various comments on how bad I was, despite haveing several good plays. We managed to defend last point. At the beginning of the next round, I select genji again, because I was playing well, and the player leaves the voice chat, picks attack symmetra, and types in the match chat that I should kill myself. We then go on to lose the game, getting held at first point, I have 4 golds play of the game and my friend and I were the only people who got cards. This type of behavior from players in every game I play is the reason why I am starting to hate the game. The only good aspects of it that I have found recently are fucking around with my friends in qp and watching pros. Does anybody else experience this?

if comp is the only thing holding you back from enjoying the game, maybe start a team with your friends and play more organized games?

This is a good idea that I have thought about, but I rarely have all 6 of my friends that I trust enough to start a team with on at once and some don’t want to start a team.

I posted something like this a while ago, and I got some good suggestions from people that have actually massively improve my Overwatch competitive experience.

-I continue to watch and follow the pro scene closely, it definitely keeps you occupied
-Find a full team of friends to do pugs with and scrim with, sometimes for fun, sometimes for competition
-Try approaching solo queue or duo queue comp with a very open mindset. The best way to climb through ranks is if you work with the team around you rather than debating who can do better.

This is why I think Blizzard should implement a clan system. It would help to find reliable people to play with. Also, you would need to play cooperatively to remain in a clan with good reputation.

I know what you mean. Its sad but alot of players have resorted to blaming other people on their team instead of attempting to carry. If you are happy with your rank then have fun, stay positive, try new heroes, joke around and be a team player. If you want to rank up just play alot and focus only on your own performance. You literally can do nothing about the guy throwing but you WILL outrank him if you focus on your own performance. The odds eventually are overwhelmingly in your favor. Also keep in mind that these people are in many games. Sometimes all you have to do is dominate one team fight and the other team will give up or even leave. I do miss the games where big comebacks were more common.
Dont forget if someone is actually griefing then report them for it. Ive gotten 3 emails from blizzard saying they took some action on my reports. One time I even reported someone before the game started and it removed him and canceled the game.

You find this in almost any game with a comp ladder. The only reason it’s different in csgo is because they have esea pugs which still suck but are much better than MM.

I found a clan on Guilded, where most of the members are around my SR and want to focus on playing Comp. We can usually get groups going and it's helped improve the quality of my games for sure.

Comp is to help you get better as an individual. Don't try to micro-manage everyone. If that's your thing, go play OW Open. In that environment, it's actually possible to get your whole team to improve.

I cannot stress this enough. The only way not to go insane in ranked is to understand that it's not the "real" thing, but more like 6 individuals trying to best other 6 individuals. Improvised teams do not work well in an heavily strategic real time game like Overwatch.

Do you have a school team of any sort? And if not could you start one up? I've been playing on my uni team recently, and even though we didn't do great the game was much more enjoyable when played 'properly' with actual communication and team comps

My small complaint at the moment is the good old Diamond Gold duo queuers that end up in my 2650 level games. The gold player is 2100 and the Diamond 3100.

No matter what, the gold player is out of their depth, especially on DPS which they almost always choose. It basically makes it a 5 v 6 if the other team are all full of players at the correct level. You then have the lottery of what the Diamond level player plays. Do they play Support? If so you're probably screwed cos they're your star player and are taking a back seat. Do they think that they're gods gift to the world and try to play Genji despite being a D.Va main? Yeah usually they do.

So basically it ends up being a 4v6 and you get steamrolled

Its always going like this. 4-5 years ago i was playing Dota2 with my RL friend. And we were dominating line all the time we played 2gether, mostly cuz we cooperate well and had good communication. We were picking character that covers bad sides of each other or which just strong as duo, or even expenriment with new duo variants and still were successful. Also, when you play with premade team for some time - you know what is the weaker side of your teammates' gameplay and what kind of support they need from you.
I think its works with any competitive game and OW is not exclusion.

Clan system, and pre-selection role (just put your preference, not a lock), lot of toxicity will go away.

Nobody said it so I'll add this here : use the mute button. His question is fair imo, and you did good by answering "it's my best hero" but as soon as he start saying negative stuff you should mute him and focus on carrying his ass. At this point, no good can come out of his comms anymore
