seems really stacked at dps especially hitscan and really weak in almost every other way besides Dhak. Maybe Zombs can make up for their weakness in tank category but Nomy's winston was always lackluster and his rein merely passable. Has super ever played anything except Rein?

Who plays genji besides Sinatraa?

Because most of the tournaments lately have been "seasons" and when is the last time you saw a sport with a season have double elim in it's playoffs?

These aren't simple round robin random seeded tournaments. You earn your seed in the playoffs by playing well.

I mean you wouldn't start him over Chips ever. Dogman is a pretty good analytical player and he's got a huge pool. He used to be a shutdown dps player for awhile and he has consistently improved which is a good sign. Good depth on the bench.

Also, we all know Seagull is good at tracer... he's openly stated he plays it on alt accounts before. His tracism is a stream personality. He loves heroes with movement abilities so there is no way he doesn't actually like tracer. Maybe effect plays genji and seagull is on tracer.

And Candlestick is right, Seagull is the best soldier tf2 ever had even over b4nny. He is without a doubt the best pharah in the world.

The difference from other e-sports is that Overwatch has 16 maps and counting and has 24 different heroes that come in and out of meta. Different from MOBAs in that it's not as simple to be good at 1 role as long as you put in the work on whatever hero fits the current meta. In mobas you play support and the characters have differences but they essentially do the same thing. Are mercy and lucio the same at all other than that they both heal? Mechanically no.

In CS, they have 7 maps. You practice 3-4 and suck at the others and hope you're able to pick 2 in a BO3. It's not that simple in OW. Having a genji player be really good on a specific map and he's able to practice that map more than all the rest gives you an advantage over a team that has a genji player that has to learn 2 maps. Now instead of getting 8 hours of practice on 1 map, he only gets 4 on each.

More players equals more specialization. Use football as an example. They have like 60 people on the team. There are at least 15-18 possible positions to play in football. Imagine if the quarterback had to also play linebacker and kicker and punter and kick returner.

He hasn't been officially released and I don't have the links to any vods or clips but multiple people have said he's not part of the new team that's being built. Also multiple people have said hydration and sinatraa

posted about 7 years ago

no they don't. Sinatraa is known mostly for his Tracer and Zarya. Seagull plays neither at the level Sinatraa does. Sinatraa's Mcree, soldier, and roadhog are also far better than Seagull's and comparable to IDDQDs (and more relevant).

Seagull however, is a far superior genji and pharah (and mei, bastion, junkrat).

IDDQD was released from NRG as well. None of the former players are on the team. It's almost definitely Sinatraa and Hydration with zombs on the bench for their dps.

Sure you've raised Mercy's skill cap, but you've discouraged (once again) simply just being good at heroes with actual high skill caps. It's like when they implemented OP D.Va, you've essentially nerfed every Soldier, Mcree, and Ana player to make way for someone to hold right click. Remember when we saw Shadowburn and Shadder playing D.Va. That shouldn't happen.

Mercy has always been the counter to simply being good and now it's worsened because all good DPS players are negated by a rez on cool down unless they just kill the mercy or completely frag out. Which they will, but it's that much harder to carry.

And also we are going to see the Karivs and the Jehongs of the world playing Mercy because you still can't go without Lucio. Sure, I don't think it will be that drastic on pro play because Mercy is arguably easier to kill now but the idea remains. She is too strong in ladder to go without.

All this to appease less than 50% of the player base and mostly those under 2500 where you start to get players competent enough to play Ana and Zen.

Just let Ana and Zenyatta be better, why does Mercy have to be at the table?

posted about 7 years ago

Yeah I agree with you here. Things might change when we get used to it but it really is just another attempt by blizzard to lower the skill cap of their own game which is pretty lame.

posted about 7 years ago

Anyone else notice that mercy is just a must pick now? Maybe not at pro level she won't be, but every where else? Definitely.

I don't mean it in like a rude way but merely as an easily understood way. Their casting sounds like what a gold tier player would say if you were asking him about the strategy of the game.

They need to learn to not only cast the ins and outs of the fights better but communicate why certain things are happening or developing the way that they are. There are some hard to understand concepts for non-players/newer players/less cerebral players. For example, why is a team waiting to take a team at this spot vs another one. It's not always "we are grouping up", there are literally spots on maps that are worth waiting 10-15 seconds and giving up cart push to make sure you get a fight there or understanding the movement of certain characters. Particularly Genji/Doomfist/Pharah.

This guy has never been GM before and then they just decide that he should be by making his character so broken that he doesn't have to do anything to get better except play the stupid character. Same thing with Mercy last season. Literally had NEVER been higher than like low plat Mercy mains every other season in masters without doing anything.

No offense to this guy. Congratulations on GM and all that. It's not his fault or diminishing his skill or anything like that. Blizzard just doesn't reward higher skill enough.

EDIT: Like for example. Seagull on stream said "I'm just going to sit here and spam (with genji) until someone is randomly 1hp from Junkrat and then dash in and out." Why would you encourage that gameplay? It's just people mindlessly doing nothing until someone gets lucky with like "skill" in that everyone shoots in the general direction of other people.

That's honestly just wrong. MESR literally hard carried Liquid once he learned Winston before they had Shadder/Fury and back in the Reinhardt days, he was insane. Best earth shatters. He literally just gets better and better.

because you are removing that you have to release keys and repress them to achieve a desired result. I can 100% do this faster/easier than I can press a release and then press d release repeat.

Edit: think about how much easier it would be to control the randomness if you only have to move 1 finger to decide your timing on your stutters as well. I don't know about you but thats a lot less thinking for my brain.

It's been in Blizzard's TOS forever. Any script/macro/third party to change default functions is considered cheating. They'll never know because it's so minor and untraceable but still it's against the competitive integrity of the game.

EDIT: Since early in WoW blizzard has promoted "if you can do it with your own two hands, then it's legal" but in this case we are creating a script to allow you to do something faster than you would be capable of with your two hands. IE breaking the rules. Just forewarning users of this, that it is a ban-able offense. Down frag me all you want, doesn't change the truth.

Here is community confirmation on the blizzard forums. https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20758846675?page=1#post-4

This actually looks terribly broken after watching it in action. So, she can't rez 4 people at once anymore but she can rez 3 people over 20 seconds so it's basically the same thing AND she gets everything else they added to her kit. They basically took away almost nothing and gave her like 5 other more powerful things. All they've done is make her better and raise the skill cap. That's it.

Guys, just because Seagull doesn't care at all anymore doesn't make him bad. His decision making and map movement are literally untouchable and these skills don't diminish. He's the best in the world at these things on both Pharah and Genji hands down. His technical ability is proficient enough to hang with the best and his team work is strong. Is seagull the best at any of the characters he plays overall? No (except he might be the best mei/bastion/junkrat). Is Seagull an incredible player and an extremely valuable asset to literally every team? Yes.

There's not much else to say. NRG will probably attempt to have him come back but judging by his unceremonious exit and his lack of comment on anything NRG related, it doesn't sound like he's all that fond of the team or it's direction so he will probably land somewhere else.

Specifically for 2cp but maybe final point on other game modes as well. Force long respawns in overtime for defense, like 20-30 seconds or so and a "final wave" rather than as each player comes up. Add 30 seconds to the clock and give defense one chance to take it back with no Overtime or something like that.

Sort of like the capture point maps of TF2.

Clearly, this has kinks but a possible solution of sorts.

I understand it's not what he wants to do but does he really prefer flipping burgers? at least OW is better means to an end...

posted about 7 years ago

I don't get how people don't understand this?

Lets use an analogy. The Lions are one of the worst teams consistently in the NFL right? They never win the super bowl, rarely make the playoffs, and have outright awful seasons most years. How do they make money then if they never win the Super Bowl?

Because people buy tickets to see the events, which OWL has been said will be all LAN and localized for every game. So theres 1 source of income.

Teams also sell Jerseys etc of their players. There is another source.

Teams also have wildly popular streamers like Seagull who get donations and subs which they usually take cuts of. So there is another.

Teams are also sponsored by all sorts of companies, and they get paid for their viewership and the return on sales. This is probably the largest source of income for teams.

Prize pools will also increase over the years. We are talking 1 million dollar minimum prize in year 1. Imagine what it could be in 5 years if things go well?

There is plenty of room to make money.

posted about 7 years ago

That's not even that much... Most orgs are already paying their players this. The average salary is 4-6k a month with significantly lower prize pools.

posted about 7 years ago

I mean, the pros all hate OW. Not many more than TL. They are all pros in other esports and all of them like their former esport better... TL breaks up for sure. Shadder, mesr and fury will all be fine and get picked up. I don't know a ton about Fury but shadder and Mesr are both two of the best at their roles in NA and maybe the world.

Unless TL is committed to OWL and decides to rebuild around those 3. Pick up 3 more Koreans or who knows.

posted about 7 years ago

was literally just wondering what everyone thought about this?

posted about 7 years ago

Spree is far and away the best zarya in the world. Dude is nuts.

posted about 7 years ago

do people not realize that OWL is going to have cheaper cities available eventually and all these orgs will buy back in and sign full rosters at that time?

No point paying 6 players and coaches 4-6k each a month when there aren't any tournaments, your team isn't in contenders or players in world cup and you don't have popular streamers.

Save the money now and reinvest later and teams will be able to pick and choose the players they want rather than signing full rosters.

posted about 7 years ago

I mean, it sorta makes sense. You know when they formed this roster that they wanted to poach Mesr and weren't able to so it's not really surprising with all the tanks available out there now vs when they picked numlocked up, they'd be shopping.

EDIT: That said, just cause it makes sense, doesn't mean it's a good choice.

Blizzard will never allow another company to run servers on it's game is why I say that it can't be third party.

Valve allows ESEA/FACEIT and anyone to create and operate servers for csgo which is why they are able to do what they do and why they do it better than Valve does. If blizzard would allow this with Overwatch, you can absolutely guarantee that both would take advantage of it but they won't and so blizzard needs to do it themselves.

Literally every other esport on the planet has this implemented in their games, the mobas all have clans/guilds etc to help organize teams and team play, csgo has esea/faceit, and I'm sure there are others and there were certainly others in the past for games like Age of Empires and Quake.

MM is perpetually never going to offer what true organized team play can and it's not supposed to. MM is meant to challenge solo play, not be the pinnacle of team play.

posted about 7 years ago

yeah, esea is 3rd party as well but it's pretty commonly agreed upon in csgo that steams internal matchmaking is very bad so anybody who plays the game at any sort of serious level uses esea.

Open division is still restricted to masters in S4 and above. This is only the top what 1% of all the players? You've got to be including the masses in this. Think about like 3rd graders playing soccer. Why do they like to watch it? cause they go out and play it and wanna be like Messi.

and I'm saying a system to both form teams and then have those teams be able to easily scrim other teams in their skill level. This is what esea does. It has an ad system and you can see how other players are and what theyre doing, who they've played for, their stats etc and then you can easily recruit and form teams and join their "leagues" and compete and it has a built in "looking for scrim" feature so teams can scrim each other.

I meant 3rd party in that, you have to go onto discord, go to a server, communicate with people (especially people you might not even know or know how to get in contact with) just to find a scrim in overwatch. It's complicated. The average guy who wants to play organized but only has a couple hours a week or whatever doesn't have time to figure that out.

posted about 7 years ago

It seems like the most obvious way to get people to care about professional level Overwatch is to get people involved. Currently, your casual gold or plat pleb, has no clue what's going on in organized overwatch. They've got an idea, but they don't truly understand what's going on. So, if you look at other successful esports and sports in general, the biggest fans are the ones who actually play. Take csgo for example, the guys I know on actual teams in ESEA main/open are the ones who watch every event and talk about them and follow every player and team.

So why doesn't Blizzard find a way to implement team building, scrimming, and eventual seasons like the ESEA divisions for all levels. Make it easy to form a 6 or more man roster by bringing players together outside of matchmaking and then make it easy for these teams to scrim each other. It'd be easy as hell. People put up an "ad" with their best heros or what position they'd like to play and captains or whatever can just look at player profiles and SR and such and start picking and trying people out.

Obviously, the OWL seems to have this in mind with contenders and such but it doesn't seem like they are making it easy for people to play truly organized overwatch. Especially not the majority player base.

Basically, in my opinion, currently it is extremely difficult to get involved in any sort of organized overwatch even at a super casual level. You've got seek out like minded parties in third party apps like discord or on websites.

Make it easy.
