JJANU's departure is the third player from the original RunAway core roster that became the 2019 Vancouver Titans, with Hooreg and Bumper proceeding his departure in late November 2019. With that team, he achieved three second place finishes and two first place finishes dating back to 2017 before entering the Overwatch League in the 2019 season. This eventually led him and the team to being the 2019 Stage 1 Overwatch League champions and runner-up team in the overall season standings.
The Titans have no other off-tank on their roster and will need a replacement.
The Titans also released a press statement wishing JJANU farewell, which can be found below:
The Vancouver Titans announce today that HyunWoo "JJANU" Choi has agreed to mutually part ways with the team. From all of us at the Vancouver Titans organization, thank you JJANU for everything you have done for the team. We wish you the best of luck during the next step of your career.
“We would like to thank JJANU for his contributions to our team and helping to bring us success in our first year in the Overwatch League. JJANU has always been an integral part of the Vancouver Titans both on and offline. In game, he supported his teammates by making critical team plays in critical moments. While offline, he carried himself to be a good sport and a supportive teammate. We wish him all the best in the future."
paJion joined the team in the first formation of the Titans, coming from the highly successful Fusion University roster, which was known as a North American juggernaut roster that had captured multiple Contenders season titles in consecutive seasons.
At this time, an interim head coach for the team has not been named. The only remaining staff members in the Titans organization are assistant coach Yang1 and analyst Andante.
The team has just over a week to bring in another off-tank player to replace JJANU before their week 14 match against the Justice. That match will be played on Satuday, May 9th at 5:00 PM Eastern.
