Kellex joins the Defiant

He has spent the past two seasons playing main support for the Boston Uprising.

Kellex joins the Defiant after the Uprising let him enter free agency in October. He had been with the Uprising since the team announced its original roster in 2017. Kellex has played in 65 of the Uprising's 68 regular season matches the team has competed in.

He joins a Defiant squad that is reforming around a western core with only two Korean players on its roster at the moment. This is a stark contrast from how the Defiant built their team last offseason when they debuted with an all-Korean roster.

Kellex will likely be the team's starting main support as their other main support player, RoKy, has been designated a two-way player.

The Defiant currently have eight players under contract. That is the league minimum roster size.

ill be honest, ive never really liked Kellex. he is a bad mercy and an ok lucio, ive been liking a lot of the defiant's pickups lately but this one kinda sucks

yeah me too overall, but still. i think this is gonna be their biggest weak point, and unfortunately maybe agilities too. i didnt watch the OWWC Canada matches but apparently he didn't do well at all

That's a possibility, but he could also not be. I don't have any expectations yet since this is obviously an entirely new team and it's a team game. I'll see how he does and either bitch and moan abut him being the "problem" or claim that I knew he'd work well all along.

Just keeping it real as a biased Toronto fanboi.

I’m I bias fanboy too! I just want the best lucio player around to pair with these amazing DPS players, Beast, and Kariv. I want this team to be good and I’m hoping and praying, but mechanically speaking Kellex is bad. Maybe he is a good shot caller or decision making, but his mechanical skill on lucio and mercy and just bad

Last year on mercy going into the second half of the session, he died a lot and was almost always the first death in a team first. On lucio, he has never had any note worthy boop. He never knocked people off high group, never really protect his ana/zen very well or anything like that. On Dallas, even closer had a few of these throughout the session and he was not a very good lucio player at all. Kellex just seems to put his aura on speed, and wall ride around. He never has any good peel moments to forced people to into positions based on his boops. That’s what I mean by “his mechanics are not very good”

About those Mercy deaths you never know, if Crusty (Huk or who ever was making their strats) wanted him to do risky plays as Mercy -going for suicide ress-, which might result into something. I don't really remember Season 1 anymore, but would have to look at some of the games to see, if there was greater purpose in some of those deaths he had.

Lucio Boops are flashy plays, but getting environmental kills won't really make anyone 'good'. Maybe he is defensive Lucio, but no clue really. Didn't watch that many Boston games towards the end of Season 2.

first, his remember most his deaths were him being picked off at the beginning of fights then striker would basically clutch the fight back.

Well I wasn't specifically talking about environmental kills, I was actually talking more about offensive boops to knock enemies off of high group, or defensive boops to protect against a reaper in the back line. Lucio is a very good space maker and I feel like he mad almost no space for his team the whole season

Don't think he is as bad as you make him sound like, but I could probably name 5 "better" (probably I just like some other players more) options. Still probably Top-10 western Main Support. Probably not in Top-20, if counting all Koreans too, but how many of those Koreans can do comms in mixed roster though?

I think people over estimate comms, especially on a team like Boston where you have Fusions, it literally doesn’t matter if you talk because this man has already said everything. Including Korean’s he is probably super low compared to very good lucio player, and as a fan of all of these new player signings, I want a super star lucio player

Well surely he is better in comms than most of those Koreans who won't talk a word of English :)) As far as I have understood Main Support has been pretty talkative role in the past at least, maybe it is slightly different with each meta, but someone has to talk all that basic stuff "clearly" so everyone can understand the plan.

But it's still hard to say who is good in comms like you said Fusions was the guy who talked a lot while Goats in Boston, but not even Fusions can see everything he needs to see, if no one gives him that information, what he does not see while holding that Rein shield somewhere in the front line.

Well some Koreans on Korean teams don't speak english, but Striker and Gamsu speak english. Infact I know Gamsu was the main shot caller on both Boston and Shanghai. So Kellex has very little shot calling experience

Gotta give credit where credits due, the defiant are killing this offseason. They’ve been good, aggressive, and made moves early. This team with a couple good additions has real potential
