UC Berkeley has won the first two Tespa Collegiate Overwatch National titles, sweeping their opponent in the national title game in both years. The school is located in Berkeley, California, just minutes from the locale of the Shock, San Francisco.
Cal will feature a new NRG and Shock sponsored esports center that will serve as both an esports arena and a campus hub for all things gaming-related. The center will be home to gaming lectures and meetings with industry leaders.
The partnership will offer students competing in esports development programs, a community innovation lab and potential links to courses for credit. The connection between the students and the team will also open up internships within the esports industry and provide for possible job fairs.
The deal will also introduce new programs to the university, including a mindfulness, health and wellness program for gamers and a Women in Gaming Initiative.
The first event held by NRG and the San Francisco Shock on the Berkeley campus was a viewing part for the Shock's Wednesday match against the Dallas Fuel. The Shock won the match 4-0.
