On November 8, the Overwatch community learned of the passing of INTERNETHULK. The following weekend, a charity tournament on the PTR to support his family and honor his memory was organized. During the tournament, which was called the Hulktastic Cup, Blizzard sent out a global message across the PTR server that said, "In loving memory, #HulkTastic." The tournament was able to raise more than $25,000 for his family.
The Overwatch League had the following to say INTERNETHULK on the news post announcing the award:
To the esports world, Dennis was more than just an accomplished player and coach – he was a friend, a confidant, someone people looked towards for guidance and support. He reached out to those around him, drew them in and built them up. In doing so, he not only helped forge the foundation of competitive Overwatch worldwide, he changed countless lives for the better, in game and out.
The first Dennis Hawelka Award will be given out at the end of the upcoming inaugural season of the Overwatch League, beginning with preseason matches on December 6th.
