I see a lot of familiar TF2 names around in Overwatch (even old school players like syckness).
How many of you guys are making the switch from TF2 to OW permanently?
tf2s "competitive future" was like 5 years ago, and valve chose to support go/dota instead (and correctly so honestly)
between the hype of overwatch (young seagull getting those 10k viewers) and blizzard saying they are going to be focusing on the competitive scene, i dont understand why anyone would be interested in continuing to play tf2, the game stagnated long ago. that being said, i do think overwatch has a lower individual skill cap, but a higher team play potential with 20 classes or whatever it is.
also the fact that so many players got a 6 month head start (including sponsorships) probably will turn some people off
tf2 will always have a special place in my heart but its hard to justify playing it now that overwatch is out
pub overwatch isnt the best but i find pub tf2 to be just awful, i only ever played pugs/dm. tf2 is nearly a decade old at this point and valve has chosen to take a hands off approach in regards to the competitive scene which is why people see it as a silly hat shooter
people say competitive overwatch isnt fun, probably because you really need EVERY player on your team to be doing their job to win + a good team composition. i think it's plenty fun when you have teammates you can trust, and i have to say im enjoying it a lot more than tf2
I'm having a lot of fun playing the game and learning the evolving meta.
also the fact that so many players got a 6 month head start (including sponsorships) probably will turn some people off
I do have to agree here, I feel so far behind in knowledge because I wasn't in the closed beta, even if there were massive changes in some of the characters.
TF2 was alot more fun to play competitively and took alot more skill but the meta got extremely stale in 6s and the future for it in terms of an eSports is pretty bleak. Besides the 2-5 mccrees/1 medi strat, I like playing a game with different metas and different groups of classes as oppose to 2 scouts/2 sollys /1 demo/1 med.
Maybe valve will fix it with the matchmaking update, but they are gonna have to try real hard to get back its old players.
To be honest I grew rather tired of TF2 after playing it for hundreds and thousands of hours. I think in terms of enjoyment and replayability the games are fairly equal but for me personally I just enjoy the look and feel of Overwatch, and the fact that there's never been a better time to get into a new eSport. So yeah, maybe it is just the 'in' thing right now, but I don't see myself going back personally. But everyone can play whatever game they wish to, it's not a war or a contest, just your preference :D
