Evil Geniuses officially announced the release of their Overwatch roster today, after months of struggles in competitive play. EG's acquisition of the up-and-coming East Wind roster in April this year was met with much enthusiasm from the Overwatch community at the time, largely due to the roster being fresh off qualifying for the playoffs of the April Monthly Melee, taking down teams such as NRG and Selfless in the process.

However, the team experienced limited success after being signed, eliminated in the early stages of both the May Monthly Melee and the Rivalcade Memorial Day Rumble. Failing to make the top 8 in the first day of qualifiers for Contenders Season Zero appears to be the straw that broke the camel's back for the faltering Geniuses.
CEO of Evil Geniuses, Peter Dager, had this to say about the team's release:
It’s unfortunate to see the guys going, but I’m excited to see what is next for them as they grow along with Overwatch. Talented and passionate players have always found homes here at EG and this team was full of them. I wish all of the guys the best of luck as they embark on the next journey of their esports careers.
The announcement stresses that Evil Geniuses are not finished with competitive Overwatch. Be sure to keep an eye out for future moves by the organisation, with many free-agents and unsponsored teams currently ripe for the picking.
The final Evil Geniuses roster was:
- Justin "Kayuun" Ha (DPS)
- Corey "Corey" Nigra (DPS)
- Lucas "Peebimitsu" Nettesheim (Flex)
- Carlo "Dcop" Delsol (Tank)
- Anthony "Goliath" Pietro (Support)
- Elijah "Elkiea" Gallagher (Support)
