It's not a clusterfuck. I don't know why you make the point about Misfits being all Swedish- does that bother you in some way? Or do you think it will bother people who want to watch the team? If there's an eSports event taking place in Miami and some people want to see it, they're not thinking about what nationality the players are.
Your other argument about OW has never had a LAN with a crowd is completely false; Atlantic Showdown, OW Open, the World Cup, MLG Vegas, Dreamhack Winter, Winter Premiere, IEM Gyeonggi, and APEX have all had crowds. The APEX season 2 finals was a packed arena. We may not be filling up stadiums every day, but we're still getting much more sizable crowds that you imagine, and with the size of the OWL, there will be plenty of people showing up in person and online. Tickets for the World Cup group stages are already sold out.
If you're thinking that no one in the mainstream will pay attention, this is also false. An ad for overwatch league aired on ABC, a prime time cable network, last night. While everyone won't rush to the stadium right away, it at least captures the interest of some people, who then tell their friends, and word gets spread. OWL isn't going to be some quiet little event. Blizzard is going to advertise the shit out of it and it will most likely be very successful.
And if you're doubting me about that ad (which you seem to do about everything), here it is: https://streamable.com/4z01f
