C9KD are probably going to come out strong after the utter demolition they suffered at the hands of the revamped LH squad.

I think the game has even more meaning since it will be their last under the brand and I'm sure they want to leave their fans with one last good memory before they peace out for OWL.

C9KD win 4-0, Foxes might be able to take a map but I think the former is going to be hungry for a clean win to wash away the taste of their last defeat.

As seen during the OWC and the OPC S2, FW are very susceptible to aggressive dive that doesn't give them time to properly set up. I think eV has a chance to take this is they can set up their dives to be quick and effective. I believe FW will have the advantage in longer fights but it's doable.

That being said, I think FW win 3-1, eV have to play with a new tank and I don't know if they'll be able to be as effective as they need to be.

They had the IG Fire & Ice players in a team called Team CC, but nothing that can compete at an OWL level. My guess is that we'll see players from MY in some form, probably with other players from top Chinese teams.

Also 150% agree that the fans would go nuts. Look no further than the petition the Team Seoul/LH fans are running against Xepher and to a lesser extent Munchkin. Now, I'm of course against fans having any say in player selection and I assume team Seoul won't consider it since they have no obligation to, but it goes to show how different the team/fan dynamic is in the east.

Also, China only has one team right now, and with the sheer number of players they can pick from I don't think they'd need to look outside of the country.

They're all "at a young age", imo. The vast majority of the players are in their late teens to early 20s, so cheating a couple of years back makes them even younger.

I don't excuse cheating, but it's no surprise young men playing in a competitive setting are more prone to do it. We do need to treat them like adults if the want to be part of the "pro" world, but proper guidance is paramount here, instead of just banning them for past mistakes, again, imo.

They probably weren't part of the conversation for this. But, from what I've just seen from LH, I think they could take GC Busan down at this point.

Holy shit. Fleta + Munchkin is scary as fuck. This is what they needed, now hopefully they can keep it going and innovate so they don't get figured out.

Not gonna lie, gonna miss seeing WhoRU, phenomenal DPS player showing even more flexibility in this match.

MY looking so good, granted LH is running two new members and probably didn't have as much practice time as they'd have needed to really be effective, but I'm really liking what I see from their unconventional approach to things.

posted about 7 years ago

WhoRU > Gido > LTJ > Esca (on Tracer)? Fleta was awesome as expected too.

Blizz is very much in charge of this tournament, so hopefully they have some other opportunities lined up for him in some way shape or form.

Really wanted to see him in OWL but just seeing him active keeps the possibility of him coming on later or maybe even in S2 alive for me.

Edit: Spelling.

Not sure about that one. Yes GCB's tanks looked good but their DPS were a huge part of that where as LH's weren't able to have the same impact.

I think it's more that GCB figured out how LH ticks inside and out and pretty much ran them over. Singling out Miro and saying he's been left behind, is putting the cart before the horse, imo.

But I guess we'll see.

Birdring looking like he could dominate in his sleep right now while Rascal just sits back and pops head on pretty much anything he plays.

Munchkin is a big one, strong Tracer they need and a flexible player at that. Looking better as they go.

Again, people wanting him to come back has nothing to do with what would be best for him and convincing him falls along those lines.

If he's healthy enough, has the support he needs and more importantly, wants to come back then power to him. Hopefully someone would give him a chance under the right circumstances and in an environment where he can thrive, but until then it's nothing but selfishness to ask for it, imo.

posted about 7 years ago

My first comment was about how "money alone" isn't worth it if he's not 100% ready and able to come back. As in, money isn't enough of a reason to ignore any underlying issues he may or may not have resolved.

I did answer your comment, my whole subject was the answer, but you didn't seem to get it, and again, that's OK.

posted about 7 years ago

Comp/Ranked was where he chose to act out in the manner that he did, but were not the core problem, as explained by himself.

You don't get it, and that's OK. I'm not justifying his actions, I'm saying it's not healthy to put himself back in the situation that "pushed" him to behave as he did.

"The money alone" isn't worth it. Until he and whomever is helping him overcome whatever issues he may have believe he's in a state where he can deal with the environment I don't believe we'll see him there.

posted about 7 years ago

Money alone is never a reason, if the opportunity itself was causing him to be that unhappy. You seem to forget that very important fact.

It's great if he worked on the issues he had, but what he displayed takes much more time than that to improve enough to be put in the same situation that broke him before.

Please don't take mental issues lightly.

Runaway showing that they're a force to be reckoned with. Ilios was very close, but from there on it was a clinic on wha not to pick into this team. From making record time on Numbani to absolutely destroying the Foxes on Anubis and then not even letting them get the 2nd point on Dorado, we saw all that Runaway had to offer, with them pretty much running the same comp.

Looking forward to seeing if they can keep this going and get a repeat victory against GCB in the grand finals.

RUNAWAY FIGHTING!!

I actually would have liked to see a team like Gigantti in this instead of ahq, were it not for VISA things.

posted about 7 years ago

If all the teams you mentions stick around they make compelling choices for S2 possibly adding more teams to OWL. They'll need to stay at the top of their respective scenes for that to happen but it could be the fuel needed to keep the pyramid stable.

posted about 7 years ago

Being released now is hella bad timing unless he already has something else lined up. Flex tanks area really important right now so I have no doubt another OWL team could use him but is it too late?

posted about 7 years ago

This impacts teams in tiers:

  1. Failed to make top two of their group
  2. Lost the Blizzcon qualifier match
  3. Lost QF match
  4. Lost SF match
  5. Finalists

Basically teams that did better than others in the same tier as them could be lower, but overall teams that went further will still be higher up in the rankings.

Edit: The two exceptions, are Thailand and Norway being lower than teams that failed to make the top two, despite making it to the Blizzcon qualifier match. In other words, decay has little effect on a WC team's rank overall compared to wins/losses

I doubt GC Busan was part of the conversation much, if at all, since their massive success has been limited to just the one recent tournament and relatively few games, even if they were huge wins.

Don't get me wrong, I'm 150% retracting myself sleeping on them, three times no less, but you don't just want a team that's good right now (see the most recent iteration of eUnited), you want a team with staying power, and we don't know if that'll be the case for GCB in the long run.

LH and KDP did get rocked but both have shown that they've been strong over large periods of time, more so in the case of LH.

inb4 he gets benched from that fictitious squad.

Unfortunate, but expected with the limited spots available in OWL. Hopefully Contenders and the rest of the tier 2 scene will be viable for both Orgs and players.

#60 GC world #1 confirmed

#65 Busan now #1 team in Korea LUL

Even though rankings should be taken with a grain of salt, I think GCB deserved to be called the best team in Korean at the moment. Considering how they absolutely decimated both finalists of last season, one of them being the twice defending champions.

Seeing them play was just amazing, the preparing and skill they showed was out of this world. And yes, part of the reason they won was momentum and their opponent's confidence being utterly destroyed, but that's par for the course on your way to crushing your opposition.

Now the only question is...if Runway can 1. Make it to the finals and 2. Get a repeat victory against GCB now that their self confidence must be sky high.

If anyone was worried about APEX I think we can safely say that it'll be just fine and keep churning out insane teams that will inevitably feed OWL with amazing players.

posted about 7 years ago

Loving that we're getting some Contenders teams forming. Hoping to see more of these if Orgs and players are willing. Hopefully we have a healthy tier 2 scene to support the top since I think turnover will be insane after OWL S1.

The reset/cd nerf that's on the PTR goes a long way in making it more bearable. If she's rezzed less than 10 seconds before she ults it won't be back up during, while she's almost impossible to hit w/o an anti air ult.

No guarantee that it'll take her out of being a must pick but she should be much more manageable. Should.

More information on why Rogue wasn't able to get into OWL. It seems like they had all their ducks in a row but were denied by Blizz, possibly because the company failed to secure the 14th investor and chose to stay at 12 teams.

Looking for most if not all of these guys to get into OWL. Surefour is just bank so there's no way he wouldn't be in. Roolf and Adam are next up and I think they also have what it takes to be in, would be surprised if they're not but with the AKM thing you never know.

Gods can play pretty much anything so regardless of the role he plays I know there's a team out there that can make good use of him.

It may not have worked out for them as a team but individually they fully deserve their spots imo.

posted about 7 years ago

The GCB boys looked hella strong today, but I also want to add that their coaching staff must have done an absolute metric ton of work preparing them for this. Case in point would be all the times Hooreg was able to catch Birdring unawares and either force him back or kill him outright.

Same thing for Woohyal always making sure his backline was protected from his assaults. The longer GCB are around the more game tape people will have on them so staying at the top, or near it, for as long as LH did might be more difficult than it seems.

In the end though I hope this has brought them some much deserved interest, I'm sure team Seoul would love a Tracer of Profit's caliber and given LH's structure I think he could fit very well into their high prep approach to the game. a Profit/Fleta combo could be very potent.

As for C9KD it's obvious that the weaknesses that LH took advantage of in S3 are still present in the face of a team they had never played against before. The backline got decimated and Birdring was rendered wholly ineffective on top of Fissure not being able to live very long into many of the engagements. Hopefully this is a wake-up call for them and they can work on shoring up those deficiencies.

Too bad the big money investors didn't see past the current gen of APEX teams.

Oh sorry, that was a typo, meant to say 4-0 for GCB. Jokes aside, I don't think I've ever been this horribly far off lol.
