Watching FU play Ana/Zen dive with WhoRU chasing the discord orbs and getting nanoed because he and Elk can build up their ults almost every single fight is kind of nuts.
This makes me think LAV might actually be one the scariest teams if they are able to run Ana/Zen effectively, because holy shit.

I don't think dive will ever fully go away. I think triple and quad tank will have it's place on certain maps but I for sure believe that overall the strongest comp will always be dive when executed by the best.

Naivete is pretty irrelevant here. AFAIK she's pretty much the only female OW Pro gamer with the skills to be in the league and a clear upgrade over their current OT lineup imo.

If she gets play time it's because she deserves it, not because they need to play her for PR purposes. Yes people will bandwagon this hard, but we shouldn't let the fanfare or her gender take away from her actual proficiency.

This should be simple enough; if she performs, she plays, if she doesn't she's benched. Really all she needs to do is outperform the other OT choices..so yeah.

You don't need to make a big deal out of it either way, positive or not, imo.

One of the problems with lists like is that there's an equal, or possibly greater, number of players in regions like KR that we don't know, for lack of exposure, that could also slot into "OWL" caliber.

The question then becomes, what do these players listed have that the others don't, aside from some notoriety. I say this not because I don't think these guy have the skill to be in OWL, but because spots are limited.

I hope we get enough teams where all of these guys have a chance to prove themselves but this league is incredibly competitive, and politics are a thing, so I'm not that astounded by them not being in at the moment.

Rascal also happens to be a pretty decent Hog.

posted about 6 years ago

Rascal's an all around flex with a few niche picks on top so you can effectively combine Seagull and Taimou's hero pool (minus how good Timo is on Widow).

Not sure what their plan is but this looks spicy af.

It looks like they at least plan on separating the stage playoffs and giving them their own Sunday.

I think them only having 2 matches on that day also opens up the possibility of adding the extra 6 matches (11th match for each team) to the schedule. To keep in line with the current format I think there are two probable ways to make this happen.

  1. A 3 day week where the first two days have 3 matches each and the 3rd day is reserved for the playoffs.
  2. A 4 days week, all with 2 matches per day and where the 4th day is reserved for the playoffs.

In either case this increases the length of each stage to 6 weeks, has each team play 11 games per stage, 44 per season and brings the total number of games per stage and per season to 66 and 264 respectively.

Whether they chose to lengthen the Season starting with the next one, because I don't think they'd implement this type of change for Season 1, remains to be seen.

Personally, I'm not convinced that 4 extra games per Season would make as big of a difference as some say but I also don't know what additional requirements would need to be met to make it happen if any.

As I mentioned previously this is just the first season so improvements are to be expected in both the short and long term future.

posted about 6 years ago

I'm assuming that probably crossed their minds but wasn't implemented for what ever reason. Not to give them a pass here but with the amount of money going into this I have to assume they've put in more research than we have even though some people think they know more.

I could be wrong, but this isn't some crazy out of left field idea.

posted about 6 years ago

I'm assuming a full round robin wasn't their priority considering how long the actual season is and that stages only mean something when you look at the extra title matches they hold.

I just want to re-iterate that to keep their current format of:

  1. 60 total matches per stage
  2. 12 matches per week
  3. 4 matches days per week
  4. 3 matches per day
  5. 2 matches per week for each team

To add that 11th match for each team you need to spread an extra 6 matches over 5 weeks. Their current format doesn't allow for this unless they add a 6th week with 4 matches days, with 2 matches each. Each team would play once and the last day could be reserved for title matches. This only works if they're willing to have a lighter 6th week and what ever implications that would entail.

Other alternatives would see you break the current consistency of the schedule by adding an extra match to a team's day somewhere in the stage which would make for an uneven spread an an extra long day that wouldn't even be equally spread over the 5 weeks. IMO this is just as unfair as some teams not getting to play other teams during a stage.

Also keep in mind that this season is long. Each team plays 40 matches and with a total of 240 matches, not including playoffs, there should realistically be a large enough number of encounters for each team's theoretical ranking to match their actual one even if they didn't play those 4 extra games.

This is the first Season so iterations are possible, I'd even say probable.

Makes the schedule less difficult to organize. The only way I'd see them playing every single team every single stage is if they play twice against each team in their own division and once against the other division.

Divisions matches only matter for the end of year playoff where the first of each division gets a spot but not playing against one team of the opposing division per stage doesn't really matter.

They' ll play them all eventually, this isn't a short form tournament.

I honestly have no idea, though I guess if you look at teams like Rogue and EnvyUs that had no NA players...then it seems to be allowed.

This would fall under false reporting. One tricking isn't a reportable/bannable offense, has nothing to do with all the time/effort he puts into the game.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be all for trying to mitigate one tricks in this game, but they've said this isn't how it's going to be done and that the report system isn't to be used in this way unfortunately.

We have a discord, probably a better place to ask questions like these tbh.

Really hoping I see a totally different Seoul from yesterday. It's pretty apparent that they have some pretty glaring weaknesses that really do show up when they're pushed to their limits.

That being said I'm still very confident that they can win if they bring their best.

Honestly not sure how they thought Gido was going to be a better fit for this match given how strong London can be but the result is very telling.

posted about 6 years ago

This is what an OWL caster had to say about the match last night:
https://twitter.com/tisrobin311/status/959404727627792386

OWL Caster Akaros: "The biggest cause of S. Dynasty's crushing loss was the healers. Tobi made so many mistakes compared to Closer who's looking like one of the best Mercys in the league. Gido's lackluster Zen didn't help. It was the healer gap that ultimately decided the match"

He continues in a couple more tweets.

They probably need stronger Monkey though, maybe this is where Knoxx or Mowzassa could help.

If they get another I think it would probably be an offtank. AM is coming to (seemingly?) replace Taimou and I don't think they're planning their roster around xQc getting another suspension.

Agreed. Fctfctn should go to fuel to relieve Mickie in DVA. While Florida should be looking at a tank like knoxx or mowzassa.

Gonna have to disagree on that one. Florida needs a strong Rein, not another Winston main and while Dallas does need another Off-Tank I don't think he'd be the one to get.

I don't have any names off the top of my head other than Zappis (could already be going to Florida).

PPPAAAAARRRTTTTAAYYYY!!!!

Jokes aside though, the effectiveness of the nerfs diminishes the lower you go in ranked, or the more chaotic/disorganized play is. So the way I see it her pick rate is going to go down quite a bit at the start but somewhat recover after some time.

I don't think she's dead in any ways, shape or form but...at least we should see less of her. Rez is still the most powerful non ult ability by a wide margin, and lord knows bad rezzes won't always get punished.

posted about 6 years ago

Not sure what to expect here. Boston did beat London but I doubt they'll be sitting Profit for this one, so Seoul will be facing what I'd arguably call the strongest DPS duo in the OWL right now.

Either way I'm hoping for as hype of a match as the Seoul vs NYXL one...but with mah Seoul boyz coming out on top this time!

posted about 6 years ago

Zuppeh is Finnish, and I don't think the all-Swede argument stands anymore. Not for OWL standards of competition.

posted about 6 years ago

Seoul super fan here. I believe in mah boyz, NYXL was just a set back and we'll come back even stronger, ready to face Houston and the Jakerat!

jokes aside I think this will either be a 3-1 or 3-2 for Seoul but to be very honest I wouldnt be shocked to see Houston being able to pull through. I'm not quite convinced that they'll be able to out strategize Seoul but I'm expecting an insane game of mind games.

posted about 6 years ago

Gotta give it to Dallas. They found a comp that works in their current circumstances and just went with it. I'm still really hoping thst they can grind the standard dive comp if Seagull can bring his Genji up to OWL standards and use the space that EFFECT can create for him. Note that this would be effectively no different than how Jake played his Genji, imo he wasn't single handedly winning fights but he made use of the space that Linkzr gave him.

There's hope yet, and with AKM coming on board it's just more options they could end up having.

posted about 6 years ago

Dorado was so different from the other maps. Hopefully once the Mercy meta dies and they can get some fresh faces we can see them do much better.

I think it's no secret that there's no much they can show that hasn't already been seen given their uh...limited roster.

stahp. you had a good thing going and you're ruining it!

Doesn't seem to have caused much backlash OWL wise and afaik he hasn't been caught cheating in this game so I'm not sure why they'd go out of their way to ban him from the league tbh.

Depends on the circumstances surrounding the event, the relationship between the people and the personalities of the parties involved though. the comment itself (Go suck a fat cock) isn't homophobic so intent and circumstances need to be accounted for here so that particular comparison isn't necessarily relevant.

That being said, in this case the punishment fits the crime considering where he looked like he was headed. I don't know what his personal situation is like to me it looked like he was on his way to pull a Dafran on his OWL career. As for the comment itself...well he kind of threw it out there on a very popular platform on top of not seeming to acknowledge the damage it could have done. Even if first "apology" didn't give me the impression that he necessarily though that was he did was wrong.

He also followed up his suspension with a series of tweets responding to some other people in the scene that made me want him to just go away for a little while because he looks like he really needs a break from all of this.

People like him aren't a rarity, w/o any medical knowledge about him he seems to have some level of attention deficit so him running his mouth faster than he can filter it isn't that much of a surprise. People do make mistakes, he's obviously made quite a few and his rope is probably much shorter than most of the other OWL players so I hope he gets a chance to learn from them this time around.

Now, this still doesn't make his actions any more acceptable, but it's something I think we should take into consideration before we go full on Reddit Character Assassination.

Just my 2 cents.

So...I'm totally OK with being down voted for this but...holy shit Remiska please stop acting like a child and calling people stupid when they say something you don't agree with. It makes you look petty and unable to hold a conversation if all you can do is resort to insults when a response doesn't make sense to you. You do this a lot, and at some point I'd figure you'd be able to learn from your own stupidity.

As for the original comment, as I understand it, wentaway was focusing on his opinion that xQc's punishment was way more severe that Profit's. In light of all this, including Profit's statement, and his lack of a prior offense history I think the relative slap on the wrist is appropriate. I won't think we'll be seeing that from him again in the future.

As for xQc he is being offered help, and even though I want to believe that he can truly change, or at least adjust his behavior to fit the expectations of the league, I can't say I'm as convinced that he won't find himself in hot water again some time later on. He has prior history and even though he probably has far more eyes on him it's also because of the twitch personality he's made for himself.

All in all I think both "punishments" fit the crime, the circumstances and the history attached to them.

Guess I'll copy pasta here:

This week will go a long way in helping us better evaluate how some teams might compare to each other but right now these are my current power rankings, 100% based on personal bias and utterly subjective metrics.

Top 3

  1. Seoul
  2. NYXL
  3. London

Playoffs

  1. LA Val
  2. Houston
  3. Dallas

Contenders

  1. LA Glad
  2. Philly
  3. San Fran
  4. Boston

Out

  1. Florida

Meme

  1. Shanghai

Some of the team choices I made are iffy at best, but as mentioned this list is fully based on my biased feels and shit so there you go. Here's how I try and justify my questionable life choices.

Top 3:
I think the Korean teams are going to be fighting for the top, as of right now I don't feel any of the other teams can really challenge them.

Playoffs
I think both LAV and Houston are poised to make the playoffs if they can keep up their performances though I don't quite see them being able to dethrone the top three anytime soon. As for Dallas while I think they will be losing their match against NYXL I believe they have what it takes to win the other ones, putting them in a playoff position at the end of stage one. Whether this comes to fruition or not remains to be seen, but this is just my personal bias.

Contenders
LAG and Philly are the most likely ones to slip into the playoffs if they can find a way to consistently best teams both at and, arguably, below their level. I give Philly the slight edge, mostly because I'm a filthy Genji main and SDB is my god. As for the other two I see both Boston and San Fran as more of a long shot but still with the possibility if they somehow play out of their minds for enough of the season to make it.

Out
Florida needs help, they need more players, they need more variety, more flexibility and they need to find a way to survive in this meta while they wait for the moth wars to end. I just don't know if it can come soon enough to save they playoff hopes.

Meme
Management needs to be on their knees apologizing to their players for what they've put them through. This team possibly could have been competitive but no amount of additions can save them imo. Hopefully they manage to salvage this train wreck, but first please get a new main tank. Roshan dies first in the vast majority of their engagement (not kidding, go look at the stats) and the weak support line can't enable his suicidal levels of hyper aggressive play, typically at the worst times. My heart absolutely breaks for these guys and at this point I just want to see them be able to compete so they at least have something positive to build on.
