The Paris spot is to be sold to McCourt Global, according to Wolf. McCourt Global currently owns French soccer squad Olympique de Marseille. The company used to own the Los Angeles Dodgers but lost the team following a 2011 bankruptcy.
The Guanghou franchise will be owned by the Nenking Group, Wolf said. The group also owns a team in China's premier basketball league, the Guangzhou Long-Lions.
A Paris team would be just the second European franchise to play in the Overwatch League, joining the London Spitfire. A Guangzhou franchise would become the second in China, following the Shanghai Dragons.
Wolf's report did not contain any confirmed price tag numbers on the franchise purchases, however ESPN still believes the cost per franchise for Overwatch League's second season is somewhere between $30 million and $60 million.
League executives have stated their desire in the past to focus on expanding outside of North America. Nine out of the league's 12 teams are based in the United States.
Neither team will play on stage until the start of the second season of the Overwatch League. The upcoming championship finale between the Philadelphia Fusion and the London Spitfire will conclude the inaugural Overwatch League season.
