Prior to the roster's release, EnVision was the only organization not associated with an Overwatch League academy scheduled to participate in Contenders Season 2 North America.
Today, I am announcing the release of my Overwatch Contenders team: @ggenvision. In between Frustration & Sadness, I have to let this project go because of the current state of Professional Overwatch.

In his Twitlonger, Minacov explained some of his reasoning for releasing the roster:
I will no go into details on why I took this decision, but one thing is sure, I am more than frustrated on how teams like EnVision, not associated to any Overwatch League Academy teams have been treated. After injecting so much into helping build the Overwatch scene, it sucks to realize that I had no support whatsoever, and my contribution did not matter.
EnVision eSports first made an appearance in the Overwatch scene in January of 2017 when it competed in the first Haste Overwatch qualifier. Many of the team's early performances left a lot to be desired as the squad seemed to be just a cut below the best teams of North America.
The organization's fortunes would change, however, after it bought Team Liquid's spot in Contenders Season One North America. The team began the tournament by upsetting Rogue and Immortals before qualifying for the playoffs and a shot at a LAN title. The team would end up being eliminated in the semifinal.
With the formation of academy teams in 2018, EnVision formed a rivalry with Fusion University, the eventual champions of Contenders Season 1 2018 North America. The squad held its own against academy teams backed by Overwatch League franchises but failed to capture a tournament win. Once again, they were eliminated in a Contenders semifinal.
The team's release comes just a week before the beginning of Contenders North America. According to Minacov, he has to find an interested buyer in the next three days if he wants to sell the team's Contenders spot. He values to spot to be worth approximately $25,000 USD.
At the time of publishing, it is not known whether or not the roster will remain together. Should EnVision's Contenders spot not get sold, the players will likely inherit it.
