eUnited has announced through a post on their website that the organization will not be participating in the first season of the Overwatch League and that the team will be shifting their focus to finding new homes for their players and staff.
The players on the team were not trialing for OWL teams previously, hoping they would get in as a team. Per sources, eUnited were reportedly in talks to buy an Overwatch League spot but the deal fell through. Now, the team has announced its focus will be on finding OWL spots for its players and staff members. While the team will play out what little remains of Contenders, what remains of the team will reportedly disband afterwards.
In the announcement, the organization declared they intend to "continue to support Overwatch and the vision that Blizzard has created," hinting at the possibility that it may remain in Overwatch even without a spot in the first season of the Overwatch League. This would be a stark contrast to the majority of organizations that have dropped their rosters, most of which have yet to return to the game.
The roster has spent most of the year as one of the best, if not the best, teams in Europe following a bootcamp in Korea. This has not been the case recently, as eUnited has yet to earn a win in Contenders Season One. With a playoff berth mathematically impossible, the team will now be focusing on showcasing their abilities to Overwatch League teams in hope of playing in the inaugural season.
The roster of eUnited will meet its end with:
- Hendrik-William "vallutaja" Kinks (DPS)
- Harrison "Kruise" Pond (DPS)
- Andrei "uNFixed" Leonov (Flex)
- Normunds "sharyk" Faterins (Tank)
- Isaac "Boombox" Charles (Support)
- Thomas "Morte" Kerbusch (Support)
