After several months of challenging the ranks of top NA competition, You Guys Get Paid? have thrown in the towel as the players look to pursue other opportunities. The team previously qualified for the Overwatch Contenders Season Zero group stage before placing fourth in their group, disqualifying them from reaching Overwatch Contenders Season One.
The team remained exciting until the end, as they garnered a top 8 finish in the first open qualifier, convincing many that their strength was no fluke. While they came in last in their group, YGGP? managed to take 8 maps total, tying the amount that Toronto Esports garnered.
The news does not necessarily come as a surprise, as outside of Overwatch Contenders, very little remains on the horizon for top professional players. Open Division is regarded as a waste of time by many, and the talent on YGGP? will almost certainly try and find places on other North American teams who do have bigger tournaments to play for.
Team captain and shotcaller PsychoWaffle had this to say regarding the team's disbanding:
"We decided as a team that it would be in each of our own best interests to pursue other opportunities presented to us, as now is the best time to do it with Contenders Season Zero just ending. We may come back if things don't work out later on down the road."
The now-defunct You Guys Get Paid? roster was as follows:
- Kyle "KSF" Frandanisa (DPS)
- Kevin "Moffitt" Moffitt (DPS)
- Eoghan "Smex" O'Neill (Flex)
- Shayne "Chayne" La Rocque (Tank)
- Jacob "PsychoWaffle" Oyer (Support)
- Wesley "MrSquishee" Ho (Support)
