Besides instant ult depletion, Mercy's res doesn't reset after casting Valkyrie, and the cooldown stays at 30 seconds.
Fucking. Finally.
Don't know if it's enough, but it's a start.
I'm really against this because, in my opinion, Mercy is going to go down the Bastion route. Not tested correctly in PTR, released live being incredibly op and then nerfed into oblivion. Blizzard needs to be trying to encourage people to be playing support heroes, as the game currently is filled with 1 trick DPS mains, and nerfing the supports just deters people more and more away from the support section. This is one of the reasons why competitive is in such a bad state. I really hope that hero 26 is going to be a very enjoyable support to play, because if it's another DPS, competitive is just going to get even worse.

Mercy was one of the top 3 most-played heroes in comp before the change. Mercy mains aren't going anywhere. Ana and Lucio, on the other hand...

It's not the pick rate that concerns me, it's her usefulness. Bastion mains still exist even though the hero itself is borderline useless. As you rightly said, Mercy will still be played, but she's far less effective with the nerf. I'd have preferred to see say a 10 second cool down after you pop valkyrie for ress rather than an instantaneous one, but leaving it at a 30 second cool down just seems far too much for me.

This doesn't change how strong she is outside of Valk. Now, instead of resetting and lowering the CD it doubles the rez distance.
She was too strong as-is with the rez reset and the 10 sec rez on top of all the other modifiers in Valk, on top of having 1-2 rezes per team fight.
This should bring her back in line, though it might now even be enough to no longer see her being a must pick since, and this is the important part, she can still rez every 30 seconds.
how about instead of making people want to play mercy, we just make people want to play the support heroes that are actually fun for DPS mains. You know ana and zen? the ones with actual guns that get to aim and shoot and kill people. The two that are pretty useless right now and the ONLY ones that dps mains want to play.
NO DPS main will ever want to play mercy. It's not fun and it's a waste of whatever aiming skill they have.

Right but the initial goal here was to fix the "unfun" nature of the Mercy hide and seek play style, can't say they succeeded in making taking away her "unfun" factor though.
This has nothing to do with making other supports more fun to play and that's already it's own subject.
CookieBeast [#3]Think it might be too harsh of a nerf but you never know with overwatch
No mercy nerf is too harsh.

but that's my point entirely, you can't put a band aid over unfun by making her OP. Sure, people with bad aim need characters to play and those can't really be DPS characters but you can't make a character a MUST PICK that isn't fun for DPS players in an FPS game. 80% of the player base is pure FPS fans and they want to shoot stuff. The heroes that shoot stuff should be the good ones.

I don't see how this is Mercy nerfed to oblivion. To put things in perspective, and in a realistic scenario.
Best and most case scenario is Mercy having res and Valkyrie at the ready, which means an instant double resurrection. When a team has a 2 man advantage, that team won the fight. Not only Mercy cancels all that, but she gets to res someone else 10 seconds afterwards, and rarely do you see a team getting 2 kills at the exact same time in ranked (bar the use of a grav combo or a similar wiping combo), so it's safe to say that 3 people on the enemy team are gonna be brought back to the fight if the Mercy manages to stay alive.
I 100% agree that the game needs more supports, but I don't know about '1 trick DPS mains'. That's contradictory. If they can fill multiple heroes at a specific role, it's fine. Plus DPS players willing to flex for the team have more incentive to play support if it's Ana or Zen as it is the closest in that role to what they main. And the only support that has been nerfed in the last few months is Mercy, since yesterday (in PTR).
Also, competitive is in a bad place because of individual SR gains that have stacked for 4 seasons now, matchmaking literally being a joke more often than not, one tricks (all of them, even a Rein 1 trick is bad in the long run) and toxicity (which is a way more complicated topic than the community give it credit).
I will agree that taking away her movement speed is a bit too much, I would've preferred a reduced speed kinda nerf. But no one can realistically argue that the res nerf is too much, doubling the res distance during Valkyrie is a good compromise. Her ult is still good too, group heals for full hps and 30% damage increase is nothing short of useful when played correctly.
Honestly, only players enjoying new Mercy are Mercy players, I don't blame them, but she was definitely broken.
It is Blizzard's fault for giving her too much in one go imo, but when you see people like EeveeA complaining about quitting the game just because she got toned the fuck down is borderline childish, and ridiculous if you ask me.
These changes will probably make Mercy into a very strong support support, instead of a must pick. New patch will probably see some play on more traditional Zen and Ana coupled with Lucio comps.
Mercy ult will just probably have to be used more aggressively on new patch, instead of waiting for the double rez. Will have to see once patch goes live. Kinda disappointed they removed bunnyhopping from Mercy so she's even more boring to play now for me :/
Respawn timers are jusy such a key mechanic in this game its amazing they let res get this out of control.
Also of note is them fixing the sustained movement speed from glide. No longer will she be able to glide into a res and out instantly. And as well the movement speed of valk. People are saying they made it too low on ptr which is surprising considering how fast people say it is now.
Overall it is a major nerf. Expect ana to come back in a big way.
