SOUTH AMERICAN PLAYERS IN A LAN ENVIRONMENT HYPE

posted about 6 years ago

Totally forgot about KariV, would have been a great example.

Personally, I think Taimou's situation was particularly unique and I don't think applies to Bumper's situation. Taimou came in as a player who played a very specific role, hitscan DPS (sans Tracer). He took on the role of main tank because his team needed him to do so, and didn't really excel at the role.

Although upon writing it out, you could maybe argue it's relevant because teams may want players with the capability to transition in the unlikely event such an emergency role swap is necessary so they can avoid a Dallas Fuel situation where Taimou is on main tank.

If your favorite pair of analysts isn't Sideshow and Bren you will be dealt with accordingly. Everyone here has been warned.

Name your favourite (feel free to say why too):
OWL team -
Current non-OWL team(s) -
Pre-OWL team(s) - LG Evil (only answering this one because this predates my time as a writer)
Player (only one allowed) -
Other players -
Streamer(s) - I like watching barcode, moonmoon, and sips. While they've all played Overwatch at some point, only barcode still plays.
Caster combo - Any duo that includes Uber
Analyst duo - Sideshow/Bren
Main desk presenter -
Match - Semifinals of Overwatch Open Misfits v Rogue
Tournament - OWL
In-game moment - Basically every moment during the OWL Finals that got a reaction out of the crowd. The atmosphere in that arena was fantastic.
Clutch moment - Hidan's sleep dart on aKm and then Tviq in the Overwatch Open semifinals to win his team Hollywood and later the set
OWL entrance -

About your personal Overwatch career:
SR now - I haven't placed yet this season but ended last season 2700something. I didn't play many beyond my placement this past season.
SR peak - 3000something or low 3100s, don't quite remember
SR goal for this season -
Main class - Main tank
Main hero - WINSTON
Other heroes you regularly play - D.Va, Reinhardt, Roadhog, Zarya, Zenyatta, Ana, and Orisa
Favourite hero - WINSTON
Hero you hate - J U N K R A T (pls remove)
Favourite map - Eichenwalde, it's a fun map that is also visually appealing
Map you hate - one of the 2cp maps probably hanamura
Favourite game mode - KOTH
Least favourite game mode - 2CP
Best play -
Best achievement -
Reason why you play Overwatch - I have fun with it
What got you into Overwatch in the first place - I used to play TF2 with my friends and we had stopped for awhile. All of the friends I played TF2 with were hype about Overwatch so I played one of the open beta periods with them to give it a try. I was instantly hooked and preorded immediately after.

About other video games: I like a pretty wide variety of video games but I am not good at any of them. I have a PS4, Wii U, N64, 3DS, and of course a PC right now. Used to play PS2, PS3, and Wii.
Games you are playing at the moment - WoW, A Hat in Time, going to start the Little Witch Academia game soon
Other esports you watch - I used to watch TF2. On occasion I will watch Smash and Rocket League.
First game you ever played - I don't know for sure. It might have been Pokemon Yellow? Alternatively, it could have been a PS1 or PS2 game.
Favourite game as a kid - Spyro (I am SO HYPE for the Reignited trilogy)
Favourite game of all time - Hollow Knight or Portal 2
Biggest achievement in a video game - Uh I don't think I really have one. It was pretty satisfying to beat Hollow Knight, but I haven't beaten the true ending yet so I don't really think that's an achievement. Will do so at some point though

About you personally (no pressure to answer any of this if you don't want to):
Age - 21
Location - I live in Charlotte, North Carolina
Describe yourself in 3 words - I chose four words
Favourite music artist - Billy Joel
Favourite music genre - Classic Rock/Rock
Sports you play - I used to play basketball, soccer (for a very short time), and bowled in leagues. I want to get back into bowling sometime soon and there's a local place with go karting leagues I'd like to do
Sports you watch - I love sports and watch a ton. Love watching NBA, NFL, MLB, and NASCAR. Will watch the highlights and key moments of a lot of other sports. Enjoy college sports a bit but lost a little bit of interest when I started going to a DII college, couldn't feel as attached to any DI schools. Also minor league baseball games are a ton of fun live.
Hobbies - A lot of my hobbies are listed in one way or another here. Although I do like collecting soda bottles and cans.
Weird fact about you - ^

If you haven't been paying attention to Twitter the past couple of weeks, the trash talk leading up to this game has been pretty good. If for no other reason, it's worth watching for any pregame and postgame smack that may happen.

No, they are very much alive. Whether or not the roster remains mostly the same or not I'm less sure about.

The story has been updated to reflect the full coaching staff of the team. Bosco will become the team's new head coach.

The story has been updated with information from today's ESPN report.

Well there are several things to be said of this. Old Gigantti was really good, first of all. Secondly, Gigantti has a highly-regarded coach with a reputation for developing talent. Finally, some role swaps have been made (which relates back to the coach being able to develop talent). rCk, who has performed wonderfully on D.Va as an off-tank, was a DPS while on ENCE.

ENCE struggled to beat many of the players currently in Contenders, but it seems clear they have all become better players since those days.

He said RTS, figured most people would know what it is but I wanted to err on the safe side.

I wanted a generic spectator skin set for events outside of OWL since the start of Contenders. Not quite the same as I wanted, but it's progress nonetheless.

To do the power ranking articles at the quality and frequency we wanted, it took a lot of work from a busy group of writers whose schedules rarely met up. After we stopped, I didn't think there was a good time to start up again.

I think we'll bring them back next season, but less regularly than we tried to this season.

Poor wording on my part. He played the first match of the season but then never played once in the next two after Alined was signed.

I think sandbagging is the wrong word, but I don't think they put the same level of preparation and work into Stage 4 than they did in the rest of the season. I don't think they were trying to hide strats, but instead were practicing less (much like you said, probably to reduce burnout and give the players a bit of rest). Nonetheless, they tried their hardest during their matches of Stage 4, but that effort wasn't enough without the practice the other teams were still putting in.

Did that seem to come back to haunt them in the playoffs? Possibly, but I have my doubts given all the practice time they had available to them the past few weeks. I think this meta was the one they were least good at (after all, Zen was a perma-pick all season and in the playoffs was only picked half the time), while Philly was really strong this meta.

All of that being said, Philadelphia is a really good team and prepared themselves appropriately to peak in the playoffs. At the same time, Excelsior didn't seem to execute at the same level they had all season, regardless of compositions. Maybe there's something to be said about that.

I think this argument was probably the best case for Fissure as MVP. However, since value can be difficult to determine (we'll never know for sure the answer to your hypotheticals even if we have guesses), many people just vote the player that was the best.

Sorry, my wording is poor and I should have gone into detail in the story. From the translations, what I understood is the team imposed the suspension (not Blizzard) and used no verbiage that suggests they will drop him. If a team is going to drop a player for an infraction like this, they are more likely to announce they're dropping the player rather than announcing a season-long suspension.

Things could change between now and then, but as it currently stands the team seems to have no intention of dropping him
