which I'd assume is a result of a number of the writers producing content for vlr.gg instead
Only partially; I've lurked on over.gg for a while and only a few staff members -- namely scrub and enigma -- have really moved over to VLR, quite a lot of people from the early to mid days of over.gg either quit or found opportunities in the OWL itself. I think over.gg has just struggled since OW esports has struggled since OWL season 1 and most comp discussion has just moved to or stuck to reddit.
didnt see this posted here so thought id drop it (even tho it's a bit late but w/e)

yeah sad how scrub died so young...
incredible that it's gotten to the point that the organizations which formed specifically to compete in overwatch are leaving overwatch
the end of an era(?)
this man's tweets are insane
Couldn't find any site analogous to over.gg for CoD (mainly just sites like charlieintel that take more inspiration from traditional online news sites and focus primarily on COD game leaks and whatnot rather than its esports scene) but I was able to find a few disconcerting articles from some news sites about issues with the league's online play.
This one from Forbes is... uh... something.
It seems the reason Slacked disconnected was due to the widespread internet issues around the globe yesterday, meaning there was literally nothing he could have done to avoid the issue. However, league rules state that internet issues are the fault of the player, and so the match was not paused, or replayed. This meant the Surge ended up losing 3-1 in the series and now must fight in the lower bracket to have a chance at a top placement.
In a series of, now deleted, tweets Sam "Octane" Larew vented his frustrations. After sending a tweet quoting the league saying the result will stand as it is a player error he tweeted:
"GETTING FINED AGAIN THIS LEAGUE IS SO ******* BAD”
“THIS LEAGUE IS ******* HORRIBLE LITERALLY AN ABOMINATION HOLY ****”
“LITERALLY OUR MOST IMPORTANT SERIES OF THE YEAR AND WE CANT PLAY IT BECAUSE THE CALL OF DUTY LEAGUE DECIDED WE CANT REPLAY A TIED HARDPOINT THIS LEAGUE SUCKS”
“COMPETITIVE INTEGRITY STRIKES AGAIN 400 MILLION DOLLAR LEAGUE BY THE WAY 4V5 NO REPLAY SICK JOKE TRY AND FINE ME CDL HOLY *** PEOPLE CANT DO THEIR JOBS”
And then there's this Benzinga article with this ominous line.
Frustrations shown by players resulted in fines and apologies, but the issues surrounding the league have remained.
Overall was pretty disappointed not to find anything like your article that was able to talk about the players themselves or the impact of the league going online on the game's scene itself.
In short, great article!!!
great feature, snivy!!!
it's super weird seeing this league get halted and moved to just online games, especially with how much money blizzard pumped into making it as offline as possible
how is the call of duty league faring?
From what I've seen, this isn't public information and has only been confirmed by inside sources.
Sinatraa's options for entering VALORANT as a pro were limited because the Overwatch League barred retiring players from signing with the parent or sister organization of any competing team, sources said. In sinatraa's case, whose Shock operate under NRG Esports, he could have played for NRG, which is putting together a VALORANT squad of its own, but not the parent or sister organization of any other team in the league.
from ESPN Esports' report
What's weird for me is that this is the complete opposite of what was reported in this overgg article. I guess it got updated with additional information from external sources?
i commend your discipline
but im still disappointed
enigma is awesome and it's really sad that over.gg never really reached its full potential
if vlr.gg does ever launch, I really hope it doesn't go the way of quake.gg
it shares the same codebase as tf.tv so whatever work I do should benefit both communities.

Trust me: You don't want this.
