The Malibu organization has disbanded, and their roster will not continue to compete in Contenders, while Triumph stated that they do not plan on fielding a team for the rest of the year.
Malibu was the rebranding of Golden Gophers, and made their Contenders debut in Week 4 of Contenders 2020 Season 1: North America. They placed in the bottom two of the July tournament in Season 2 and were unable to qualify for the August or September tournaments in Trials.
The Triumph organization entered Overwatch at the beginning of 2019, rotating a number of players during their time. In Season 2, they placed in the bottom two of the July and August tournaments, and did not qualify for the September tournament. The day before Triumph's announcement, DPS BucK and tank player nich announced their free agency.
Triumph general manager Rusto said in a video that there were multiple factors in the decision for their organization, including low viewership and prize pools, and the primary reason for the organization was a lack of a development track in professional Overwatch. They are working with the players so that they can keep their spot for Trials in October.
