APEX are some of the best observers imo. Can't please everyone, and it's not like predicting everything that's going to happen is easy.

Honestly I think they're the ones that tend to miss the fewest plays compared to the other major tournaments.

Hindsight is 20/20 so it's pretty easy to sit back and complain about it. Not sure many others would be able to do a better job when on the spot.

This was much closer than I expected it to be considering DTN.KR's track record in both the OPC qualifiers and their 0-4 record before this match. It's unfortunate that they couldn't find their stride earlier since they're unlikely to make it out of this group phase with just two matches left.

Care to elaborate?

Right now there's...APEX S4, APEX S5 Challengers, OPC S2, OWPS Summer, Contenders NA/EU and a couple of SA tournaments. Granted the Asian tourneys aren't at great times for people in NA but you can still catch a match or two if you're up for it.

You may need to wait until, or after, OWL launches to see what the new Tier 2 landscape will look like but for now things have been going in a relatively predictable direction with the current embargo on Blizz tournament licenses.

I'd say Lunatic Hai's bracket is a bit stronger, though nothing like it was in the past two seasons. The clear favourites to me are of course LH and KDP and i think they'll be joined by LWR and either X6 or Runaway.

Personally I hope Runaway make it so they get more exposure and support but I don't think they currently have what it takes to win it all.

The finals is looking like it will be LH vs KDP again and I'll be rooting for LH to go out with a bang and a third consecutive title!

Edit: Forgot my fanboy warcry: LUNATIC HAI FIGHTING!!

Yeah, I'm pretty ignorant of this things so I haven't heard much of Australia, but I do think the country as a whole probably has enough of a following for one team, probably in Sydney or Melbourne - no clue which one is better suited.

Heck if you take all the eSports fans from AUS and NZ you could probably make it work!

Looks like he either may have been cut, released or just chosen to leave since they didn't seem to have a spot for him. He's no longer on the roster so his Contenders is effectively over.

Runner and his wife are just amazing. It's great to see how much support he gets from her considering how much of their lives they have to put into this.

On an unrelated note, Runner's an awesome guy, but wow, he really hit the lottery. A beautiful wife that is fully on board with your venture in eSports AND who gets that involved? That's one heck of a gem right there.

Does it even qualify as a leak when people are just tweeting out things, not by mistake - the memes are strong, to be interpreted by the masses in any ways possible?

Big if true though.

That would make 13, according to the article their goal was 14, but yeah, I'd like to see 16.

Kyb's Tracer in no where near MikeyA's imo and Nevix is a better option for the Flex DPS role. I'm not sure where Kyb would fit in other than being a sub right now.

I think Grim is the key here if IMT's overall team play hasn't improved significantly. He's going to need to help his team secure early picks to take some of the burden off of Fate, but more importantly Agilities. Given IMT's lack of flexibility in successfully running anything other than the KR 2-2-2 dive RNG has a real chance of taking over the match with some solid Pharah play and it could just be enough to get them the win here.

In the end though I still believe in IMT and I'm hoping they can get it together. I think IMT win 3-2, but I say this with next to no certainty, as an upset is extremely likely if they can't fins an effective way to deal with Mangachu when he's on the Pharah.

Time to see ma boi Mykl get dunked on by Carpe.

Jokes aside, FaZe should win this convincingly, the Babybay hunt resumes as I assume both Carpe and SDB will be gunning for him to shut down 80% of KUN's fire power.

I think FaZe win 4-0, and even though an upset is possible I think this is unlikely to be one.

posted about 7 years ago

Looking at the recent history of both teams it's hard to say who I'd give it to. KUN have yet to win a match against one of the stronger teams and Rogue has been very hit or miss...though mostly miss...with their team play and being able to win both with the conditions they were playing in and their very obviously lack of effective flexibility.

I will say though that being back in an optimal environment should give them at least a bit of a boost so I'll give them a small advantage because of it.

I think Rogue win 3-1, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this going all the way or KUN getting the W instead. Will be interesting to see who can bounce back.

I'm also low key hoping for SoOn to carry hard and just shit on Mykl left, right and center.

posted about 7 years ago

This is going to be a big test for the CornDogs, they haven't played RNG yet so a win here would go a very long way in helping them secure a top 4 spot over KUN.

However, given what we've seen from EnVision so far I have to think of them as the favorites to win this. Their team play has been a cut above every one of their opponents while FNRGFE's has been hit or miss.

I think EnVision win 4-0, with FNRGFE possibly getting a map.

posted about 7 years ago

It's just the original S1 roster template, should still be Numlocked.

posted about 7 years ago

There's no way FNRGFE is picking Volskya. Assault may not be Envy's best map type but that's one map where they can flex their strat and team play muscles in full.

I 150% believe they'll be taking them to Hanamura, where they have the best chance of taking a map imo.

posted about 7 years ago

I think they might just be trying stuff out, maybe to future proof themselves? I don't know when EscA will be leaving for military service or when Jehong decides to hang up his biotic rifle, so it would make sense to know what your effective options are.

posted about 7 years ago

I think you forget the "Our Taejun, Your Taejun" days. As much as I like EscA I will admit that he's not the best DPS mechanically but other than on Tracer I feel like he's still much more consistent than Taejun was on Tracer/Hog.

They've shown that they can play w/o EscA though, so if they can beef up their DPS and the flexibility they can bring. They have a strong core so I think they can be a top contender for some time.

I think all the experimenting we're seeing is to future proof themselves for when EscA needs to do his military service and also for when Jehong decides to retire. The org as a whole seems very intelligent in trying to make it so that no one player is solely responsible for their success.

Gotta be brutally honest, I'm afraid I have to agree. I like GB, but he's so focused on w/e he's saying at the moment that he doesn't react to situations changing until after the fact.

I will say though that I do feel like he's improved a bit since the beginning, just not enough for me to enjoy hearing him cast yet.

posted about 7 years ago

It's as if IMT can't even snowball a fight where they get an early pick. Their time to kill so so high they end up being at a numbers disadvantage.

The name of the game for EnVision was "Kill Babybay -> Win". Time for the usual "Mykl is holding them back" comment.

posted about 7 years ago

That made sense in my head as it was being translated from French to English, let me fix that.

posted about 7 years ago

I'm looking at you from across the room with my smug French Canadian face.

Jokes aside, I think Fragi is an amazing Rein one of the best in EU, if not all of the west. I also believe that while Shaz and Bigoose aren't as known as Grey and Neptuno they've been performing at a high enough level to enable their tanks and DPS to thrive.

As for the man to man match ups it was as you said, too close to really be a huge factor but I do still think that Gigantti had the advantage in overall skill, on top of better team play. I also want to highlight Linkzr. I feel like he doesn't get enough credit from you for the amount of clutch moments he's able to turn around. He's a driving force in a lot of the wins the were able to get imo.

In my opinion only the first map was realistically close here with C9 not being able to complete any of the other maps so I can't say it was super tight but still a very entertaining match overall.

Edit: added clarification, cause English is hard ok.

posted about 7 years ago

I have to disagree, right now C9 don't seem to have the players to win the man to man match up against Giganti. IMO Linkrz > Nevix and Davin > MikeyA, but also Fraggi > Mowzassa.

I think Gigantti win 3-1, If C9 manage to get a map off of them.

I'd be very interested in knowing who you think can pull through for C9 and help them take it over Gigantti.

Welp, I feel like Carpe won that duel hands down. Even more so because he actually won several 1v1 against Soon. Oh and for what it's worth Soon isn't one of the best when it comes to Tracer 1v1, in fact he usually tries to avoid them as much as possible. The one he lost on Nepal ended up being the nail in the coffin for that map and it shows that if teams can shut down Soon they have a very clear path to victory.

Because AKM gets manhandled by the enemy D.Va and Nico, while better on that hero than AKM, has a long way to go to be "effective" on her, I feel like they as a team will continue to struggle for a while. Either until they change up the roster, or until the day where triple DPs is once again viable.

Looking forward to seeing what the incoming hero reworks do for these guys but in any case I really feel like they need a more versatile flex DPS, so that Soon can stay on Tracer, or flex to niche picks when necessary.

More than ever I really want to see ChrisTFer getting some OWL action. He's too much of a game changer not to, from the looks of it the whole team is getting attention they never would have had they not looked this good, even if it is against BP and an amebic eUnited.

They look clean AF.

posted about 7 years ago

Sharyk is getting caught out of position so much it's a bit crazy, add to that Vallutaja not being as effective as he used on top of their lack of a top level flex tank and I can see why this match is going the way it is.

Really impressed by the TS guys and specially ChrisTFer his shot calling and leadership seems to be frighteningly effective.

This is looking more and more like a 3-1 for TS, I think eUnited can still get a win on Gibraltar, but then again you never know.

posted about 7 years ago

Still a curious choice considering they haven't lost a map to anyone, including a team that beat GO, so I'd be mighty surprised to see them lose three in this match.

And I guess I put too much faith in eUnited, but clearly the core issues they have are deep (no top tier level flex tank). Still hoping they can turn it around for the sake of my shattered pride but it's not looking good.

On another note, Big Chris is nuts, the amount of chance and success he was able to bring to EnVision and now the new TS squad is amazing. Can't give him enough props.

posted about 7 years ago

MrBeck is Danish right? Because that would give them a 1-2-3 flag meta if he's still in, could have been the key to their victory yesterday and them possibly winning today.

Oh, and the guys are good too, but we all know flag metas is what wins matches.

posted about 7 years ago

Taking a map off FW is big, even if they couldn't get the win. The team is looking better and better and I could see them making up some of the ground they lost once we hit week 2. Really hope they can avoid relegation because they're an interesting bunch to watch.

Might AOD was Tier 2 before they split up, so the current iteration of Ardeont is probably of a similar level. If you're asking how they'd do against the two T1 teams in KR right now (LH & KDP), they would probably get 3-0'd.

It's hard to tell but I'm guessing they'd be around the same strength as X6 and other similar teams.

He did, but I feel like Nesh had a bigger impact, against a stronger team last week.

It looks like Nesh was a really big part of why BP showed some serious signs of improvement last week. I'm sad that he wasn't in this one, it's the reason why I thought it was going to be a close game.

They played really well on Control and KDP just looked really uncoordinated. It's unfortunate that they couldn't carry the momentum to the more strat reliant maps.
