If Boombox is playing Fusion wins. Elk wasn't bad in this match, but it was not his primary role.
Although I don't know about map pool, not sure if either has played these maps yet.

Well yeah... Philly is at least "okay" with Goats even though seems like Sado is mediocre with Rein (not trash like Gesture), but think we just saw the difference of Boombox vs Elk (who wasn't playing his primary role) as Zen. I don't think Elk did (I didn't watch his PoV) any big mistakes, but didn't really see him popping on kill feed as much as Boombox either. Will be interesting to see, if this leads up to Philly maybe filling up their roster with backup Off-Tank and Flex-Support (and maybe 4th DPS player as well) for later stages?
Credit to Florida though for not being as trash as Washington vs London Goats. I wouldn't say Florida was convincing at all though.
Well Chengdu losses and Reddit ends up "praising" Chengdu for playing something else than Goats... like wtf... is this? Sometimes I just wonder are people watching any esports for high quality gameplay or just for "entertainment" valued gameplay with some weird shit happening, which just makes team lose?
I just don't get some people. If they would win I would understand the praise, but come on... team gets L after a match and people are like "but they didn't play Goats so they are true winners".
But then again, if their REAL main tank is still in visa hell I get why they are playing, what they are playing, but still stupid to praise any tactic as long as it's still crediting a L into standings...
Florida threw Numbani draw away so much...
You are saved this time.
There's just no chance in hell.. that this match can be any worse than previous match!
Well at least I don't need to look at those skins now... but holy hell how bad gameplay that match was...
That's what you thought.....
Have to look... I don't play Tracer anyways so it won't bother me :P
Any suggestions though what skin even looks good? :S I made same promise for getting their skin....
Just absolutely no words...
Better start downloading... (half time)...
I'm actually scared... on half time.... 2-0 for Washington...
I didn't really watch NYXL vs Washington too closely to judge how team oriented their Goats was, but point was, if London tries solo carries while still playing Goats and Washington actually can play as a team.. who knows.
London just did so many "I'm superhero I can win 1v6" vs Philly and Paris so who knows.
In before they still keep trying solo plays vs Goats..
I will buy 1 Washington Justice OWL skin with my tokens, if they manage to win London in this match...
Will be interesting to see, if teams that only played 1 game on first week can improve (teams that lost) or will other teams be able to read them (teams that won) for week 2.
I don't believe it happen, but first match on week 2 is Washington vs London... and, if London losses this... I'm just gonna lose my mind totally...
What's the record we are expecting teams needing to make season playoffs? Top-6 and 7th-12th Play-In Tournament?
I am actually interested to see, what happens to this squad after Contenders Season 1.
As they were able to 'grandfather' 4 Koreans to this season they will have to drop/trade/loan one of them. Will be actually interesting to see how much soft-region-locking affects in NA, Pacific and China Contenders. It will have no effect on EU, Korea, South America or Australia anyways.
Na1st - Underaged, Maybe, Loan?
Bernar - Maybe
ChangSik - Maybe
Alarm - Season 3 Philly Fusion.. just no need to say more...
Only scenario how I see them keeping all of them in Philly Organization is that Bernar gets signed to OWL as backup Off-Tank.
Isn't Luddee Lucio player though (for this meta)? Mayhem needs a backup bus driver for TviQ? :) /joke
Mayhem might make sense (I didn't really follow how Kris did play in their only game so far) since Mayhem seems to be doing something, what no one understands anyways. Not sure, if Boink did that much mistakes for Houston, but Rawkus at least did get lots of love as people shared some of his flanks. But without knowing, what was the team plan hard to say really.
Wonder though, if Goats remain as meta strong for Stage 1 and Stage 2, what kind of mid-season picks up will we see (EU, NA or Korean players) or will Hero 30 determinate meta for Stage 3 and 4 so we might see something totally different?
Who was the rumored Paris Academy supports? Or some NA Academies, which haven't announced their rosters yet?
With quick look on Academy rosters I can only see Gladiators Legion without main support (Luddee was main support as far as I can remember?)
Hard to judge too much based of 1 match for some teams, if they lost or won some weak team (Shanghai, Washington, Florida). Would still agree that Hangzhou Spark is probably very high in standings after Stage 1. Atlanta was pretty solid too vs Philly. Paris stomped London, but have to see vs some better Goats team, what actually happens.
Wouldn't say too much yet about Vancouver (winning Shanghai is not a feat...), Washington (losing to NYXL was expected, but 1 map win was maybe impressive), Toronto (Houston looks pretty average/weak at the moment), Chengdu won vs Guangzhou so not so what to expected from these teams.
Compared to most power rankings:
Teams that would be higher: Atlanta, Boston
Teams that would be lower: London, Shanghai
Philly seemed a bit more stronger in Hybrid and Escort, but Control and Assault felt pretty even both sides.
If Atlanta can keep this up they will be much higher than most Power Rankings (11th-15th I believe what most were) would even say they have a chance to be Top-8 team.
Philadelphia and Atlanta feels like 2nd and 3rd most EU team after Paris.
I think it just shows, what some french players said back in World Cup, when they were scrimming with Eagle Gaming "We beat them with X comp vs Goats and next day they come with strat that countered our comp". Different map, but Sombra got nothing done in Route 66.
Give them one map so they don't feel so sad.
But Gesture on Rein is like watching Bronze game compared to, when gets to play Winston or Orisa....
Well they tried to sneeze in 4 games into same time slot than last year with 3 games, but so far it's been 1 hour late after 2 games each day :D (That's when I went to sleep....) So there's just no time for long desk sections. Maybe they plan to do some analyze sections in post-game Watchpoint or somewhere at some point, but think for now they just need to get stuff running smooth without days lasting 7 or 8 hours.
I am not sure is it really just maps taking much longer than they expected or some delays in somewhere else in production.
Well 1min 30sec breaks (dunno how many there are now) vs last year of 3min 30sec breaks only between maps and long halftime. At least Toyota ad (map pool presented) is smooth that kind of ads doesn't really bother me. T-Mobile is ads when going to break not too long either. I mean ads are okay, when they fit the context.
Well Shock was in Top-5 for most rankings (real Contender) and Dallas around 8th-12th (Play-In Contentions) so result is probably expected.
If game is mostly Goats Paris easy win at least, if we are taking anything from Philly vs London match.
Well that's first true Chinese team victory.
I am assuming you are mostly commenting on break between round 1 and round 2 (in Hybrid, Assault and Escort), but it isn't that bad, if you think about. It's only 90 seconds break (well probably a bit longer with that one add before timer starts running), but in game there's 40 seconds hero selection screen and then 45 seconds waiting before round starts and they seems to be coming back from break about 10 seconds before round starts. So it doesn't really extend the wait for the round more than 10-20 seconds.
Breaks between maps is just normal though at least, if we are having subs.
I don't think it's that bad. It's only 1min 30sec as far as I noticed and happened twice or was it three maps? Was 2nd and 3rd map at least not sure of Rialto. Of course there was breaks between maps, but I wouldn't say it's that bad. Didn't like 3min 30sec breaks after each map last year though. I am more interested to see how often we finish up games in time with their 1h 30min timeslot. I don't mind, if they go overtime, but don't really want to watch 7 hours somedays :P
Think pre-show Watchpoint before games and recap Watchpoint after games makes desk sections okay, when halftime seems to be short analyze on big screen.
Have to remember some of these games will be shown in TV so there needs to be certain amount of breaks for commercials.
I guess this means Toronto Defiant owns large part of Canada with their OWL slot? Not that I would expect to see more Canadian cities to get OWL teams.
I wonder though, what will Standings look after Stage 1 compared to, what is actual rankings (after each team would have played every opponent once) with full "round". I am not really sure (based on power rankings), which team should have easiest 7 games for Stage 1.
Just by having quick look NYXL schedule Boston, Washington, Valiant, Houston, Toronto, Seoul and SF Shock. Should be easy 5 wins, if not more.
Feels like EU Contenders will get a shake up with these Trials. Personally I thought CIS Hope would been one of two who makes it into Contenders.
I think it looks good. Even I do like Jaws/Legday and ZP as casters I have to say Wolf and Achillios are probably still a little bit ahead as a duo (the little I have had time to watch their casting for World Cup). Never had time to really watch Korean Contenders.
I wonder thought, what's going on with desk since there's probably much less "spare time" this season with 4 matches per day instead of 3, but run time per day is same. Will be interesting to see how well they can stay in schedule for each day (obviously stomps can happen or double extra rounds).
Yeah Zarya play was different for World Cup than it was before whole Goats-meta, but it kind of did show that, if X hero is needed to play differently than it was played before we could see different players shine up instead of all those players who used to be known for playing that hero. Will be interesting to see, if Dva matrix CD change will make some of the S1 Dva's look bad or good compared to others. Like who knows, if some new playstyle will evolve for some different hero that nobody has even thought about.
Spitfire just used to play Birdring (or Hooreg, while Birdring had injury) with Widow so I was just mostly expecting that he wouldn't even play Widow this season either since he is probably more valuable with some other hero (Birdring is pretty flexible as far as I can remember). There's just so many formerly "Tracer One-Tricks", because it was DIVE DIVE DIVE... DIVE so Tracer was picked about 99,9% of the time... It's just hard to say who actually is true flex-god for Pro-level, when meta is kind of forcing you to play only one hero. A lot of players can play many heroes well enough in ranked, but I wouldn't even call that too hard half the time in ranked... when it's such a mess sometimes.
I just can see easily 1 or 2 of those hyped Korean roster (full or nearly full) from London, NYXL, Seoul, Guangzhou, Hangzhou or Vancouver to "underperform" (well for NYXL underperform would be finish 5th or something), but it's just really hard to say which will be the team. Although Florida, Shanghai and Toronto are Koreans too and not expected to do that well. Well I do agree wtih that surely at least one of those 4 China teams which make it into playoffs Guangzhou and/or Hangzhou are most likely options,
I don't know am I thinking too complicated, but anyways, if Atlantic division has multiple "trash" teams, which will get stomped by everyone, if Florida, Toronto, Washington and Boston are that bad as people expect (+if Atlanta, Houston and Paris are mediocre like in most power rankings) would that mean London, NYXL and Fusion (ranked high in most rankings) getting easy path to playoffs (since they play twice in own division and only once vs Pacific).
I think World Cup did show some examples of good Zarya play and bad Zarya play in Goats (old patch): Quick look in USA vs UK before the match was Sinatraa is godlike Zarya, but when Zarya(+Brig) were meant to be protecting Rein for not getting stunned and slammed, which USA weren't able to do, but Korea did learn to adapt (they had more VODs and time of UK play) and Carpe was Zarya for Korea. This is not meant to be glorifying or bashing any player, but I think there's plenty of similar little things, which happened in Contenders Season 3 mostly with Grav+Bomb combo, where Lucio goes to boop so Rein won't be able to block with shield, but spotting Lucio in live video is not always so easy.. But about Carpe's signature heroes you are probably right that he is probably not Number One with either, but NYXL can't switch Pine and SBB mid map, if they are running different attack and defense setups. (Btw Birdring is Widow in Spitfire, not Profit, I haven't seen Profit play Widow so can't say how good his Widow is). But it's more about actually having a player who can flex into 3-5 or more heroes mid-game than just having that godlike Tracer One Trick playing Tracer every round, when Brigitte is played by enemy. After all it's a team game not 1v1 Tracer or Widow battleground.
Where as in Pacific I think only team, which everyone expect to do poorly is Chengdu, but every other 9 teams are considered better compared to most of the Atlantic teams.
In general I just think, if we look at the end of the season with Top-12 (Playoffs and Play-In Tournament spots) it's probably going to be at least 4-5 teams from each Division, but will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Toronto Defiant: Dafran and Gator are trouble waiting to happen, and once Dafran inevitably gets benched, their DPS play will probably not be great. That being said, they have a pretty solid tank line so I don't see them crashing too hard.>
It's nice that Dafran and Gator can bring Toronto even higher than in the rankings :P.
Jokes aside, but I can sense Korean bias in the rankings since Top-8 is basically 80% of Korean players. I would rate at least few of them much lower and probably Philly a bit higher. Otherwise I can see reasoning with most of these, except we are in GOATS meta and so much talks about Tracers or Genjis :S
I think that's the part, what most people forget about China and their 1,4 billion population, where Europe (includes Russia etc) is 741 million (European Union 512 million) and North America 580 million (USA 330 million). I think most of the "western world" (depends, which countries you count in as "western") doesn't have more than 1-1,5 billion people, which is about same than China.
Yeah 8 Contenders teams for EU is kind of little, but understandable by looking how few Academy or Orgs there is in currently in EU (There's plenty of players, but simply not enough Orgs/Academies). If we get something like 5 new EU teams into OWL for S3 then it would be expected to see EU Contenders to get expansion as well (into 2 x 8 teams Contenders or what ever the format would be for 2020).
Yeah I think every Academy team or any Org should (at least when we talk of EU) try to get some local players from their country, which keeps the identify of the team as certain country, but not be too stubborn with only getting (well in this case french players) local nationality players.
Just like Gigantti was full Finnish team for 2017 S1 (pre-OWL) and 2018 S1, but wasn't stubborn with staying full Finnish after Nil stopped playing after 2018 S1. I think it's still important to have some local (nationwide local, not NY wise local) players for most of the EU. I don't really know how good is talent pool outside Gigantti for Finland, but at least there's couple teams like Nyyrikki (Frost and Ice) and Trailblazers with some Finnish talent, but hard to say much, when not really seen their games that often (mostly Assembly, where Gigantti 3-0's everyone over the past few years).
But yeah I do prefer mixed rosters a lot (Philly fan for S1), but things like Paris having couple french players is kind of needed in my mind since there actually is quite a few good french players and I would be shocked, if their Academy wouldn't some french players too.
At least this makes sense in way of having 6 Academy players (Not that I see Apply getting a lot of playtime in OWL with full Korean+TviQ roster) even though Apply probably will still be a lot with Academy team.
I wonder, what will happen with this Org for OWL S3. I mean how much is Samsung putting money into this?
Well it's hard to say Academy team in EU would bad thing, when there's only 3 or 4 non-Academy orgs in next Contenders Angry Titans, Team Gigantti and Samsumg Morning Stars are already in and Winstrike is in Trials. I don't know, what kind of support all of these teams offer for their players (money or benefits wise), but can't be worse than nothing.
I would say it's mostly good though, because of players getting paid. As long as there's a clear vision, what players they will sign for their Academy. Some french players is expected, but will be interesting to see, if they will sign other nationalities and is their primary goal sign only young (16-19) players or will they get some older ones too (22-25).
Of course it sucks for Open Division for now (since bottom 7 teams from S3 2018 were dropped to Trials) since most likely couple of OD teams would have probably won some of the previous Contenders teams in Trials. Just wish there would be more of those Open Division games streamed with casting, was pretty fun watching some of that last weekend. Might even tune in for next time Open Division Playoffs are on.
Well I highly doubt they would do home-away-home-away etc., but it would be more like East Coast teams go to West Coast for playing all of those teams for next few weeks. Just like, if they fly to Europe they would play vs all European teams not just one.
I think you could look at how NHL (or some other American sports) works with road-game tour being something like 3-7 games and similar with home games in a row.
I would expect that to be most likely outcome without actually knowing, what kind of players you can find from NY area, but what, if they actually somehow decently and put up a fight vs other teams, but still finish at bottom.
I could believe they could find 6 players, which can play at Contenders level, but since they would need to find 6 players, where each player does different role I have my doubts. Like sure they could probably find lets say 3 Main Tanks and 0 Off-Tanks so how do you build a team from that?
But is Jer still "New Yorker" or not? :) Sure it's silly with OWL team being full Korean (I believe most of them speak decent English though (compared to London squad)). I am just wondering why is Jer being kept in roster so far since you can barely find any info about, where each player is born in USA.
I find it hard to justify all the flying from NA to Europe (when home games), if Europe has only 2 teams. Of course, if American investor wants to get a city in NA they will not buy slot for Europe.
I do agree with South America though with different reasons though. Can you imagine flying to Brazil just for one game and then fly back to NA? It doesn't make sense.
If they want to make it logistically reasonable I don't think Australia or South America getting only 1 team makes too much sense.
I would say their primary target should be getting few more EU teams for countries like: (I am assuming 4 divisions with 7 teams in each so trying to make some sense in my picks) So basically new teams 5 EU, 2 Asia and 1 NA. So it would be 7 EU, 14 NA, 7 Asia
Personally I think, if they want teams in South America they would need to get 2 teams there, but with Australia I don't think they really deserve more than 1 team, but I am not sure how much sense does it make logistically without knowing, where is nearest team in Asia/Pacific region. To make this happen though I think they need 32 teams in League.
Jer is New Yorker or why is he kept in the roster (so far)?
