On top of the Overwatch League MVP award, Grand Finals MVP award and Dennis Hawelka Award, two new awards will be introduced.
The first of these awards will be the Rookie of the Year award, which will be given to the best performer of this season's first-time Overwatch League players.
The second award will be the Overwatch League Role Stars, which will be given to the top four players of each role. The Overwatch League separates the roles by Damage, Support and Tank, meaning 12 players will earn this award.
The Dennis Hawelka Award and the Overwatch League Role Stars will be announced on the weekend of the play-in tournament in late August. The Rookie of the Year and the Overwatch League MVP awards will be announced at the start of the double-elimination postseason playoffs.
The Dennis Hawelka Award will be decided by the League Office after each team nominates their own players. General managers, head coaches, broadcast talent and media vote among players with a minimum of 60% of possible maps played this season for Role Stars. The Rookie of the Year award will be selected by a vote of general managers, head coaches, broadcast talent and media.
Much like last year, the Grand Finals MVP will be selected and announced immediately after the completion of the grand finals. Votes from votes from general managers, head coaches, broadcast talent and media will be combined with Twitter and Twitch fan votes.
