Regardless of who talks shit, at some point the "professional" aspect of this "sport" needs to come through if it wants to be taken seriously. The potential for scandals when you have a bunch of kids bitch slapping each other over the internet is strong and I assume that's not where the scene wants to be.
If mutual respect is too hard then shutting up is the next best thing, imo.
In boxing don't they shit talk all the time? I'm pretty sure it's used as a marketing strategy to get more people engaged in the match. So I don't think this shit talking ruins the authenticity of professionalism within Overwatch.
I personally like the whole aspect of people having beef with one another. In a way it humanizes them and makes it more relatable by showing us they're not all "Mary Sues." Now I'm not saying everyone should be a dickhead, but throw in some tyranny to make the story more interesting is my point.
Professionalism is only needed to sucker in the big sponsors at the start. After that people want drama and scandal to create big headlines and gossip. Outside the 5 o'clock news the biggest headlines and most popular articles are whatever is the most scandalous things or drama filled feuds that people can dig up.
For whatever reason the majority of people seem to enjoy hearing and reading about the biggest holes that those more well-known than them can dig themselves into. Or maybe I'm just cynical shrug.
