The explosive growth of Overwatch continues, as two more heavyweights enter the scene. ELEAGUE, revered for its production of an eponymous league for Counter-Strike, has joined forces with FACEIT, well-known for its tournament platform notably used for Counter-Strike and Dota, to present the Overwatch Open.
The event will feature North American and European teams competing for a share of the enormous $300,000 prize pool. The first online phase begins tomorrow, July 23rd and will be played on FACEIT (marking its debut into Overwatch). After several rounds of online play, the top teams will advance to online regional playoffs August 26th-28th, in which the top eight teams will advance to the Finals.
The Finals will begin with regional events, with the North American Regional Finals September 25th-26th and the European Regional Finals shortly thereafter September 28th-29th. The top team from each will advance to the Grand Finals on September 30th. The Finals will be held at the ELEAGUE arena at TBS's studio in Atlanta and streamed live on Twitch, with the Grand Finals additionally being broadcasted on TBS.
The format and ruleset of the event is yet to be announced, though further details are sure to be announced with the event rapidly approaching. All the details will be shown on their website, so be sure to tape down your refresh key there!
