Hi folks,

Wanted to pop over to post an update about the Overwatch tournament to be held at FLan.

Currently Overwatch registration is limited to 6 teams but will certainly increase should the need arise. The tournament will be run with standard competitive rules (1 hero limit, no 2cp maps). The prize pool is currently TBD, depending on how many tournament tickets are sold as FLan is completely crowdfunded via donations and ticket sales. The campaign has already raised enough money to pay for the venue for both days so all donations and sales from here on out go into the prize pool.

FLan 2016 will take place on the weekend of August 13th and 14th at the Doubletree Hotel & Convention Center in Miami, FL. The venue is about a 10 minute ride from Miami International Airport and the hotel offers a free shuttle service. It is a BYOC event so please keep that in mind when purchasing a tournament ticket. If you purchase a ticket and later on realize you can't make it please feel free to message me on BNet or Steam and I will be able to assist you with the refund process.

There are plenty of thank-you gifts for donors and there will be raffle prizes at the event such as a LAN-ready (Small Form Factor) PC, a Nintendo Wii, and some neat goodies donated by the awesome folks over at Sloth E-Sports.

More information regarding the venue/hotel and the overall event itself can be found on our site at http://FLan.TF and our donation/ticket page can be viewed at http://FLan.TF/Campaign.
I'm really excited to have Overwatch included at FLan and I very much look forward to meeting fellow players there.

Your post just avoided all criticism posted in here. This reads like you're my phone provider giving a standard response on my phone bill "We are focused on optimising our network to give you the optimal network" kind of stuff

Not too far off, I copypasted my response from the TFTV thread as the first post was almost identical. "Oh em gee Overwatch UGC???".

But you're right, reading through the thread now a few folks have some questions and although I can't answer them all due to a few details not being finalized pending a meeting in the next week I can answer some.

is the general plan to support this or not let UGC make another league with terrible admin and website support?

The majority of players that it would get would be the ones coming from TF2 so honestly it is in our hands as to whether or not this grows into something much larger than just a TF2 player-filled Overwatch league.

The Overwatch admin team currently consist of Myself, Gaberoll, Maddie (One of the starting admins for UGC Dota2), and Snowblindfrog (Former headadmin for UGC HL).
Gaberoll and I are really making an effort to make sure that this will be an overall positive experience for staff and players alike. Unless you guys are TF2 players you won't really know me but I've really put in a lot of TLC into the TF2 community the past few years through my Florida Lan and AntiCheat efforts and I am putting just as much care into UGC OW. I can assure you that you will have a good experience with the OW staff. Forn and Snowblind also made major changes to the site to implement BNet login systems to both the main website and forums, we playing with the idea sprucing up the player pages as well to show Preferred Classes and possibly even stats; But for now we just need to be sure the core mechanics work. We already have 300+ player signups for OW with no advertising, we are expecting this number to heavily increase once we make an official announcement regarding the start date and the finalization of rules.

in my case can't do sunday afternoons due to work but can do saturday evenings and just want to play something slightly more organized outside of 6 stacking matchmaking. if i could do the gosugamers stuff i would.

Would be nice if that NA division would be hosted on a Saturday. All those people(including myself) who can't do Sunday can do Saturday.

Currently we are setting the default match times to take place on Saturday 8:30pm EST, but as with our TF2 divisions the teams playing are more than welcome to reschedule to other times as long as it's within match comms.
Gabe and I picked this date/time after considering other factors such as other UGC games (6s, HL, Dota2) and ESEA common match times for TF2 (Tuesday/Thursday nights).

The following quoted posts is from TFTV but I feel is 100% relevant here as well

its also a league compared the to weekly tournies which are not, so it has a bit more structure

As stated above, the other leagues I'm aware of have weekly/monthly tournaments. We are aiming for a more traditional approach competitive TF2 players are familiar with with Seasons, Divisions, and Rankings.

Speaking as a player and not an admin here for a second: I feel like this setup is more appealing to not just players who want to see their teams grow in ranks season after season, but it may also appeal to some potential sponsors for both teams and the league itself. I'm very hopeful that we can draw in enough attention that we can have a prize pool in the future, but that all depends on our success. This initial mini-season will help us work out any kinks so that the first formal season should go smoothly enough to draw a good amount of attention.

If you guys have anymore questions please feel free to post them here or message me directly.

Hey guys,

Due to the extreme lack (read: zero) signups I have for the Sm4sh tournament at FLan I've decided to drop Sm4sh in favor of Overwatch. I've removed the Sm4sh entry ticket from the Indiegogo page and already put up the tickets for OW; the Ultimate Tournament Bundle will remain up and will stay at the $70 price point which means it'll save you even more money if you wanted to participate in all 3 events (HL, 6s, and OW).

There are 36 total tickets available, enough for a 6 team tournament. If we sell all the tickets there will be plenty of money to give out prizes for you OW folks.

Hello

UGC OW Admin here,

We're very excited to be hosting an OW league and very much look forward to our upcoming pilot season.
It's looking to be like a mini season lasting about 5 or so weeks to test out various rules and configurations (both in-game and on the UGC backend). Taking the feedback we gain from that we will be launching a formal 'Season 1' in the fall. Our rules page as it is now isn't final as we are still tweaking things here and there and will continue to do so in the following days. We've been keeping a line of dialogue with Blizzard regarding our league to to not only improve our experience for the end users but to also provide Blizzard with suggestions on what we think they can do to improve their structure. We can't say for certain whether or not they'll implement our suggestions (Things like having Custom Lobby templates for Comp Matches so settings don't have to be redone in full every-single-time). That aside, we are very excited about this pilot season and we look forward to seeing you guys there.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to me on Bnet or the UGC Discord
