Aye, I may be wrongly assuming that this has to do with the whole NA vs EU thing..but I just like OW, a lot. Don't care if the teams/players are from NA, EU or KR.
Great OW matches are to be had and can be discussed, even by plebs like me.
I think I mentioned the wanting part as well.
"I'm assuming it's by an org that wants in, or can get in,"
We also don't know when the league is starting to with the unknown timeline. I can see that being a deterrent in wanting to pick up players but the idea of holding valuable player contracts to sell them to orgs has also been thrown around here and there.
Just opinions based on results I've seen and how I think the teams are playing. I don't think voicing my point of view is wrong and I also have no issues being wrong in what I think will happen.
My personal opinion shouldn't cause you much distress my friend.
Good to see that Season 1 is looking strong. I wouldn't have minded something like a 4 team qualifier to allow two more teams to join in case they underperformed in Season 0 but this is looking good.
Lots of OW to watch for a lil while there.
As far as I understand the orgs that are dropping their teams are doing so because they don't see the investment profit if they can't get into the OWL.
If they do get picked up I'm assuming it's by an org that wants in, or can get in, or that just believe in the squad. I'm leaning towards the former and I can totally see that happening.
I posted this comment on Harsha's editorial. This has already been discussed and explained and honestly nothing more can be done about Season 0. We have to look forward to Season 1 and be critical of that one where needed but for now here you go:
"This is the youtube version of The Overview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8FZegZ1dyk
If you haven't had a chance to watch the twitch version please try and see at least one of them. I hope it instills some hope/faith that Season 0 wasn't meant to be what we expected it to be, and that Season 1 is where things really take off.
Not to take anything away from this article because I think it played a big part in them adjusting the schedule, but as they've shown we also don't have line of sight into what goes on behind the scene and realistically this should provide some level of insight on why we didn't get to see we all felt at what we should have.
Note that's about 1:30min long, but well worth it in my opinion.
Happy viewing!"
Just for the sake of the cool idea of animal wars I want LK to win this but I think eUnited have the edge here. I'm thinking this will either be a very close match or just an absolute stomp, hopefully the former.
This is my ill advised stab at map scores:
eUnited 3-2 LK
RiP showing some promise after being defeated by 123..Misfits on the other hand seems to have taken a few steps back since the group stages.
Luckily they're both in contenders regardless but I hope both can come back even stronger.
Should be a good one even if it's just for seeding at this point. I'm not gonna go into map score but I think Moviestar should win this in a hopefully close match.
Contenders Season 1, here they come!
The Sweeds vs the Fins...AND GO!
The prophecy is complete. Cleaning ladies around the Overwatch Universe rejoice! The Oprah sweepstakes has come to pass in the quaters!
I'm a dog person, but I'm also a lover of math..and while I wish I could have both and just count puppies all day...only one shall pass.
The flag/name/logo trilogy is looking strong, maybe even too strong for dangerously cute Bazooka wielding Puppies:
123 3-2 BP
Right but FW has been destroying their opponents for a while now so there's no surprise in the score line here, over the course of the tournament FW won the total map score 18-5.
I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to point out because they were going to play a minimum of two rounds so you'd expect some progress at some point no? In any case, even if it did take the 2nd Bo7 for Blank to figure out a way to, once again, get maps off FW since their first match on that first week they still did.
It didn't translate into a match win but in the end the scoreline is the scoreline.
Last match of the QF and the only one I predicted to be a sweep. Let's see if I just "caster cursed" the cleaning lady.
Guess today is the cleaning lady's day cause...YOU GET A SWEEP, AND YOU GET A SWEEP...ERRYBODY GETS A SWEEP!
Weaponized animals fight, make it happen boyz!!
Oh my, another sweep! Today's looking clean AF.
BP cleaning up!! Upset no. 1 completed, and in commanding fashion too.
An expected result but heck, they went down fighting!
Overall, nV still hasn't faced any great teams. And I think most people are correct to assume that KDP is the favorite here...because well, they are at the moment. nV has yet to be tested, whether it be in their group where only Meta posed a challenge while they were adjusting or in the quarters where they dropped the ball against X6 only to come back and prove they were a class above them.
KDP on the other hand has been tested. They beat Rogue, who beat nV albeit without EFFECT, they got their revenge against LH, and then dispatched LWB, though they were weakened by the loss of Janus. Do note that KDP has now survived two groups of death, so they're battle tested and deserve to be called favorites.
That of course doesn't mean nV can't win this. Like you I'm rooting really hard for them. But right now they're the ones with something to prove more so then KDP imo.
From what Toronto Esports released it sounds like Jaru is only on loan for the weekend. Doesn't look like he's actually trialing if I'm to believe them.
Do you have actual proof for that statement?
One team down, just one more to go and I get my dream finals.....GO NV GOOOO!!!!!
From what we've seen at Contenders I think IMT has the best chance of possibly defeating these guys, otherwise they might just extend their win streak since losing two of their matches at APEX.
Not to say that others teams might not surprise us, I'm just not convinced they will.
Unless someone other than the Koreans figure out how to consistently beat these guys I don't think they'll drop a map until Blizzcon.
What happens in the playoffs remains to be seen though, tough opposition from some of the big countries.
I can see them coming out on top of their group but I'm not sure if they'll be able to beat Denmark. If they somehow finish 2nd they would most likely have to face France for the Blizzcon spot, a much worst situation than having to face the Danes.
For the first time since the 3-way trade Misfits are looking good, not quite up to where I thought they'd be, but much much better than they have been for a while.
Bazooka Puppies managed to pull themselves together in the 2nd week of groups and make it through and while I really like what they've been able to do I think Misfits have found themselves and might be too much for them to take down at the moment:
Misfits 3-1 BP
This looks like a match with a lot of unknowns, 1-2-3's quick rise in the EU scene and RiP's new found success after swapping out a third of their team.
I think this might go the way of 123 just from looking at their results in their group especially with how they fared against Moviestar Riders. That on top of not having to deal with the instability that comes from having just recently swapped their roster should give them the advantage.
On the other hand with so many new dynamics in play I can see this going either way. Here's how I think this will go:
123 3-1 RiP
This should be a good match though with their recent match history I have to give the edge to eUnited.
We've seen that almost nothing can't be flipped on it's head so an upset if most definitely possible, but I'm not convinced we'll get to see one here:
eUited 3-1 Moviestar
I see what you mean. Perhaps they'll do as #7 mentioned, else I'm not sure how they'd determine that.
ma boy TyDolla and ROX Orcas have their work cut out for them. I\m not sure they'll make it out of this phase, along with Meta Bellum.
If they can beat GC Busan and either LWR or AFR they might have a chance.
Glad to see GC Busan bouncing back after their first match of this group phase. Had me worried since they had previously won vs LWR in a close match in first group phase.
Correct, they need to win one playoff match to secure their spot. Either right off the bat against TL or in a "losers" bracket if they fail to do so.
As announced ConnorJ is stepping down so that's going to be a blow to EnVision even though Jaru is one heck of a beast in his own rights. The swap will no doubt affect their coordination as a unit but we'll have to see how they bounce back from this.
Still, TL's recent success and their consistency in groups should allow them to power through this. I can see myself being wrong here, but I think TL will be moving on:
TL 3-0 EnVision
Aside from IMT flag meta being stifled by improper flag order, I think they should win this because they've seemed like the more consistent team.
FaZe has alot of talent themselves so I could see this going either way but still, advantage IMT imo:
IMT 3-1 FaZe
RNG version 1.3333.... vs FNRGFE version 1.16666...
I don't know how well RNG will do at this stage into the tournament but I'm hoping they don't fizzle out like they sometimes did in the past. The way I see this the match is mostly RNG's to win or lose and this is how I think it's gonna go down:
RNG 3-1 FNRGFE
Not sure who to predict for the win here..LG haven't really been challenged in their group compared to Kungarna so that might end up being a factor but personally I'm rooting for ma man train to help carry the team to victory by killing the opponents with kindness.
In all seriousness I'm honestly not sure but my stab in the dark at this:
LGE 2-3 Kungarna
I think the FW vs BLANK one was a bit less unexpected. FW have been dominating all opponents including blank since like the 3rd week.
I really REALLY want BLANK to come back stronger from this but I'm truly worried after seeing this series.
I hope they prove me dead wrong tomorrow.
This. Please.
TS will need to bring their A+ game for this. I give the edge to LK but we'll get to see if the mono flag meta is stronger than the awesome logo meta.
My vote's in the Kitty Basket for the win here:
TS 0-3 LK
CLG looking good for future tournaments. They didn't make it out of groups but I feel like they did pretty well considering the new addition.
Good to see so many teams making adjustments and finding at least some levels of success so quickly.
4-0 completed for FW. Extremely strong team. I don't know if there's much BLANK can do here, other than the first match they haven't been able to win a map against them.
One more chance to make this a proper finals tomorrow...I BELIEVE.
FW is an insane team, unless BLANK can channel their inner Lunatic Hai and reverse sweep this first series is looking like it's going to end quickly.
Hopefully they can regroup and formulate a strategy to solve their opponents.
I think KDP will make it to the finals but I absolutely hope I'm utterly wrong and that we get to see how nV measures up against what I'd arguably call the best team in the world right now.
Somehow LH once again managed to turn unexpected roster swaps into success. Their coach is something else, not to take anything away from their skill as a team.
Do you think they would have fared better against KDP?
4-0 completed. AFB just wasn't able to handle the tactical and aggressive tank busting nature of LH. They never had to adjust their play so I guess not getting properly tested was a bigger deal than I had previously thought.
Good game by Lunatic Hai, complete domination.
I don't think AFB has the mental testicles for a reverse sweep unfortunately...
My prediction here is that AFB and KDP move on to the finals but what I want to see is LH and nV.
Make it happen boyz, I BELIEVE!!!
GOD HAS SPOKEN. HEAR HIS WORDS. BASK IN HIS GLORY.
