The score was as a lot of predictors expected but this was even more brutal than expected. 123 looking real good for sure but BP just throwing ultimates at awkward times and seeming very uncoordinated.

They're going to need to overhaul their execution if they want any chance of winning a match this season.

posted about 7 years ago

I totally agree Remiska, I have 0 confidence in any prediction I'm about to make and admittedly I'm just picking the teams I like the most.

123 win 4-0

  • 123 should have little trouble getting another sweep if BP show the same lack of coordination as they did last week, the leader in methodically arranged flags looked very strong and I'm not convinced it will be any different this week.

GO win 3-1

  • If GO can keep leveraging their mastery of the Doomfist meta they should get the win here, TS members haven't looked strong other than Kragie and a one man army doesn't usually go far against a coordinated machine of a squad in Overwatch.

eUnited win 3-1

  • eUnited should bounce back from their loss to Gigantti and Cloud 9 might be just what they need. Even though the latter made some impressive roster changes they've had very little time to practice and properly get in sync. This match very much has the possibility of being an upset.

Misfits win 3-2

  • Misfits looked extremely good but it was against a Could 9 team that had just made changes and just looked really bad. Gigantti on the other hand managed to beat the perceived top EU team in a commanding way so I think this match has a high chance of being close with Misfits getting the win in some fashion. However, I do believe that this match has the highest chance of being an upset.

1246 looking much better on the first two maps but kind of just going away on the last two. They now pretty much need to have some sort of miracle in addition to their opponents slumping to have a solid chance of making the top 8 given that they've yet to win a match.

Not yet impossible, but increasingly improbable.

Looks like HKA decided to put their big boy pants on and really challenge the previous top two teams. This is making look Ardeont like the absolute monster of this tournament as they don't seem to have been truly challenged yet.

posted about 7 years ago

He's talking about how FW only beat them 3-2, so yes, it could be very close. Or it could be a stomp, it depends on which HKA team decides to show up to the game.

posted about 7 years ago

Could be a chance for BLANK confirm their position at the top of the food chain if they manage to get a clean win here. Good prep for the undoubtedly difficult matches against the other top 3 teams.

Envy has EFFECT though. Gotta do justice by him as well if you're to be the fearless leader of our flag rebellion.

They needed change though, it doesn't really matter if we perceive it as a good move or not, I think doing nothing would have been worst given how weak their DPS core was made to look.

Looks like they nerfed her missile damage, as discussed in this Reddit thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/6w0mz3/dva_missile_damage_reduced_on_ptr_about_damage/

From the looks of the gif the dummy seems to have about 37.5 hp left making their dmg to be about 162.5. This would make the total dmg per missile to be about 9 and if they keep the same direct to splash dmg ratio I'd say we'd be looking at 3 (direct) + 6 (splash).

If you hit all the missiles you're still likely to kill your target almost instantly given the very low amount of health they'll have left (200 HP heroes), but given their projectile nature and that they're relatively difficult to hit at anything but point blank range I think this reins her in quite a bit while still giving her some very decent burst potential.

Also note that her fusion cannons do almost no damage other than at very close range so with proper use I still see her as being very deadly if she can get the drop on you or if you're CC'd.

Here's the thing, I agree that it's not the best for endemics since they inevitably lose part of the brand identity when it comes to Overwatch but I would assume that marketing and advertising would heavily link the two organisation to make sure as much of their fan base as possibly is informed and aware that this team, no matter the name, is theirs, probably through the use of social media.

It remains to be seen how much the endemics will win or lose because of this but with the league model they've been pushing for many months now this is a logical outcome. Hopefully it's worth it for them in the end, for both theirs and the league's sake.

posted about 7 years ago

He was pointing out why there's a need to make the OWL team it's own separate entity from the C9 Jack brand because you're essentially buying the right to be in the Blizz's League, you're buying a spot that can be resold so there's a need to have it be independent of your own company brand so that you no longer own the rights to the name if you do end up selling it.

posted about 7 years ago

The names are historical because the teams are old, it doesn't apply to new teams/organisation. Their names can still be changed if the new ownership deems it necessary with the risk of possibly alienating long time fans.

What's important isn't the name, it's the entity, the sports team and it's association with a unique sport/location. That's what you're buying/selling and endemic orgs don't make sense in that context.

posted about 7 years ago

It won't be the London C9, as explained by Flame and the ESPN article it will be a new name/brand so if Jack sells the team he will be selling the whole OWL org/spot instead of the players as would normally be done in eSports.

AKA he (C9) owns the London Royals, he sells the team and is no longer associated with them. C9 would be more of a parent company.

Current sports example, the LA Clippers owner was forced to sell the team that he owned. They are still the LA Clippers but under new ownership.

posted about 7 years ago

That's not how sports team ownership works, look it up.

posted about 7 years ago

I'm not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. If you look at traditional sports, which OWL is trying to model itself after, teams don't share names with other sports entities even if they're owned by the same company/group.

This is a standard in sports and makes sense whether it be for selling the teams or branding in general.

Remiska before trying to sound like you know everything how about you think about other logical possibilities, I can't blame you for your lack of foresight, but you just sound like an arrogant prick when you try and dismiss another's opinion.

Silkthread back in the game that he can't quite like a bad relationship Kappa. He's a monster though and if they do pair him with Sinatraa I think C9 will be quite the threat. I still believe they can bounce back from the week one loss with these roster changes and do well in Contenders.

HKA getting relatively dominated by Ardeont but competing with FW...doesn't look good for the Wolves when they face off against their new Korean overlords.

They did it! Team CC got a win...albeit against one of the only two teams without a single map win yet but hey, it's better than nothing!

ViCi really brought it to MY on the first map but MY looked bak in form, specially after absolutely destroying the former on Horizon and full holding on the first point of Hollywood.

As the casters mentioned LGD is looking a bit stronger right now but both still go undefeated in this group phase!

posted about 7 years ago

KDU absolutely decimated FL, only one stage on Ilios was even remotely close and it almost looks like it got that far because KDU wasn't playing as seriously as they should have.

This was almost as much of a blood bath as the KR vs every other team in their group at the OWC. FL looked like they just gave up, very painful to watch.

Next question is if they even play the match against KDP or if they forfeit/disband, because it only gets worst from here.

I didn't know teams had anything to do with their player's ethnicity. I remember him saying in an interview that he was ethnically Thai but I don't quite remember the rest of the details.

Should be another very interesting week, my hunch is that teams will most likely have stabilized so we might be less likely to see crazy upsets like last week but you never know.

In the end these are the picks I think will make the top 4 as they are my current favorites:

  1. EnvyUs
  2. Immortals
  3. Rogue
  4. FaZe

Let's how horrendously wrong, or right (genius?), I am in the coming weeks, really looking forward to more of this and the unexpected levels of competitiveness we've seen thus far.

Except that she can be killed before she rezzes them all and 10 seconds of 5v6, for example, is quite long enough to snowball the fight.

The impact of her rez has been significantly lowered since getting two picks will still give you a numbers advantage and again, no immunity while rezzing means you can kill her as soon as she does and prevent any more after that.

Note that they'll also be nerfing her damage so that infinite ammo battle Mercy isn't a better dps than the dps themselves.

Edit 1: Good Mercy player will probably take full advantage of her rez CD resetting when she pops her ult giving her up to 4 total rezzes in the 20 second ult duration. She can be pretty hard to kill while flying around and her passive regeneration does not get interrupted by damage so her being able to live long enough to get those for rezzes is very possible. I think they might end up nerfing the ult duration and/or ult generation else she might just be able to rez almost all of her team, albeit one by one.

As I mentioned above the positive spin here is that other than the back to back rezzes her ability to stop the snowball caused by picks is severely reduced and if focus fire is properly directed it could effectively be nullified.

Edit 2: Mercy and D.Va apparently don't care about your CC abilities. some bugs that will need to be foxed for sure.

Hopefully the additions help them thrive in this volatile meta and that they can take this week by storm, cause the matches after this one are likely to be much more difficult.

Ardeont is looking dominant and FW seem to be getting back in form, they have their work cut out for them for sure.

Welp, it went the other way. FTD showing that the dream is well and alive! If they going as-is we could see a repeat of their strong Spring Season group phase run, hopefully they can keep it going deep into the playoffs this time around though.

posted about 7 years ago

Personally I'd like to see Misfits, eUnited, Gigantti and Cloud 9 make it through to the playoffs. Nothing against the other teams but those were and still are my favorite team, EU wise at least.

Theoretically if my favorites did make it this is how I think the seeding would go:

  1. Misfits
  2. Gigantti
  3. Cloud 9
  4. eUnited

Really looking forward to see just how wrong..(or if i'm right I'm buying a lottery ticket ASAP)...after the next several weeks. Don't think I've been this excited for an online tournament since the AMM/OMM and the Beat Invitational!

Edit: I swapped eUnited (now 4) and Cloud 9's (now 3) ranks.

Really looking forward to this match. Runaway looked good against Meta Athena but it's hard to quantify since MEta has looked absolutely lost in both of their games this Season.

A win here guarantees them a top two finish but a loss makes the group hella interesting since they would then virtually have to beat MVP for a shot at the spot with the tier breaker either going to map scores or even extra matches if both this and the MVP games are close!

Personally I'm still rooting for LH even with their loss to MVP since I'd like to see them go out with a bang in their last APEX run, but I also wan to see Runaway make it out over MVP and make an epic run for the championship. Also note that if LH wins here, they also need to 3-0 Meta to match the other two team's results and give themselves the best possible chance to continue on, or at least an opportunity to fight for it.

For the 3rd season in a row the LH group is where all the action's at and I think it's probably a big part of why they're so resilient.

LUNATIC HAI FIGHTING!

posted about 7 years ago

Not sure about that. Since she would only be able to rez the Pharah you just need to kill the rest of the team. She's also no longer immune so she'd be an easy takedown at that point.

I think this make Pharmercy much more risky in the event that either one of them, or one of their teammates die since there's no "reset" button anymore. Her ult would also be wasted if used just to boost/heal Pharah so she'd have to drop down and use it on the team for a higher return. A lot more options, but also a lot more decisions to be made.

Her skill ceiling and floor have been raised for sure.

posted about 7 years ago

I also like the fact the she's no longer invulnerable when using rez. I don't think it'll affect her survivability too much because of the change to her passive and it no longer being interrupted by dmg while the ult is active.

I think it might actually make her really hard to kill during her ult unless you can focus her down. I haven't tried her yet but on paper this looks like such an improvement overall.

I can see Sinatraa on Tracer with Nevix flexing to what they need be it Genji, Soldier, McCree or otherwise. I don't know how good his other heroes are but they could try and mimic what Tviq and Logix have going on, with the added benefit of Sinatraa also being able to flex to more picks.

I can see them becoming another super flexible and well rounded team if this works out for them.

posted about 7 years ago

That is some scary ass burst, and you have almost no way of preventing her from getting to you now that she's very likely to use her matrix offensively. Prepare to get melted by the new extreme D.Va/Winston/Tracer and Genji/Doomfist dive...maybe.

posted about 7 years ago

If they wanted to go that way I'm thinking they'd just keep Kolsti for that all French lineup thing they got going.

posted about 7 years ago

Interesting, sad to see ChrisTFer go but I hope Numlocked also works out for the best for these guys. With LGE taking a step back they're my last bastion of hope for Canadian orgs in Overwatch.

They'll be facing another trial by fire in IMT and this match should be much more difficult given their new opponents much higher proficiency when it comes to the OT role along with comparable skill everywhere else.

I'm 100% biased so I'm hoping for another upset but keeping my expectation realistic here.

posted about 7 years ago

I actually agree that Jake's tactical effectiveness lies in the relatively high number of characters and comps he allows his team to choose from. From what I've seen his most effective pick is Soldier with varying amount of effectiveness on Genji and Pharah, but as for Reaper it's a pick almost all Pros can whip out since his mechanics are relatively simple.

I do think though that the overall level of his non Soldier picks are what keep me from declaring him truly flexible like let's say a Tviq, though I don't think there's anything wrong with that because, in my opinion, his tactical knowledge and the way he can execute on those tactics is what make him such a good player.

Now, even Train isn't a carry Tracer to the level of let's say Sinatraa or Logix, he's skilled to the point of requiring almost no resources and still being able to get the job done on top of being able to flex to other picks whenever the team needs it. I think the team was strong because they complemented each other's strengths and weaknesses so I don't think it's entirely fair to single one of the other out as the carry or being less than.

In the end I think it's highly likely that most if not all of these guys can find their way into OWL in one way or another, lots skill and intelligence in this squad.

Speaking of one star, you're on your way to yours! But yeah, they're gonna have to adjust that difficulty rating probably. I'm really loving these changes though.

Does anyone know if you have time to cast two more rezzes after pupping your ult? There's the initial one right after the reset then possibly two more with the 10sec cd's but what happens to the ability cd once the ult wears off? Does 20seconds get added to it if it's already counting down or does the cd only get adjusted after the first use out of ult?

FL got dumpstered by NC Foxes so I can only assume the next step is them getting deleted by KDU. Really hoping Fleta gets picked up by a team that can give him the support and resources he needs to shine before his will rots away in this one.

Zebbosai himself said calling in English was difficult after having called in Sweedish for so long so they adopted a bit of a hybrid system to help themselves out. Not sure if it's still the case but it's a compelling example from an actual english speaker.

As for LWB they have Pine yes? Adding in the new "ladder monster" they picked up their 6 man squad is complete. Pine's hero pool covers for SBB and they form another formidable Tracer + Flex duo.

Now, I'm assuming that if they did add players it wouldn't just be the one NA/EU player but several to cover any weaknesses they may have. I'm pretty interested in what they decide to do with the squad and how they do relative to the other crazy teams we'll see in OWL.

It's still very early but it looks like season one will be very competitive.

Reddit Thread for this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/6vorts/cloud9_sign_sinatraa_fischer_neptuno_space/

Interestingly enough they can build a beast of a team with this if they're serious. Sinatraa + Nevix would give them the strong Tracer and Flex DPS they need.

I don't know how to compare Space/Crems or Crusade/Neptuno but take the theoretical best of those choices and go from there maybe?

posted about 7 years ago

They did but that may have been because of hoe recent the change was. Seeing how LWB is out I think AF has a solid chance of making top 3 or better this season. Remains to be seen who will join them and KDP at the top but I'm thinking LH should be able to recover from their loss and make it back to the top after finding new, and more importantly, effective strats to deal with Doomfist and/or Pharah.

posted about 7 years ago

That looks real scary at point blank. Reddit is correct, 12 (4 direct + 8 splash)x18 = 216 if all the missiles hit for direct dmg.

Each individual missile basically does 10% of a Pharah rocket so she's looking like a hell of a tank shredder right now with that burst on an 8 sec cd.

Gonna have to see what the projectile speed is and how hard they are to land because it sounds like it needs to be tuned down just a bit.

Imagine a D.Va flying at you with DM up for a 2 secs immediately followed by rockets and her primary fire since she can do both after caster. Now imagine it again but with Winston and Doomsfit diving you in the backline too.

Scary shit, possibly.

Could have, but in case some conversation were happening in each thread, since I didn't write them myself.

I was with you in the previous comment, mainly because of the language barrier and culture difference of not just one or two players, but the whole squad. I think that forcing diversity over building a strong team is probably not the direction they want to take.

Now, I actually would have been OK with them grabbing Kungarna or ex-LGE or really any squad as long that had proven itself to be of OWL caliber. First and foremost you want a wining team no matter what form it takes, and you can add pieces to fill the gaps. Whether it;s 50/50 or otherwise nationality can't be your first criteria, even if it's to mirror the diversity of the area you represent.

In this case getting all of LWB is fine but I think it needs to be supplemented with NA/EU players that can fill any roles that the current squad lacks to make sure the team is the strongest one you can possibly have. Kind of like what MEGA Thunder did.
