Ridiculous update over the previous layout, really well done enigma. Hopefully ports over to tftv with no issues.

Are there any other spots on any other maps that are like that? Didn't they say also its on purpose to make defending harder at that specific spot because its so strong, seems overkill as fuck tho

Downloading now but I'm not sure if thats a sure sign I am in the beta or not.

Key points

-No charging money for future heroes and maps
-Killfeed most likely going to be introduced
-Scoreboard maybe getting changed, more focused on the "on fire" system and refining it along with end cards.
-Option to turn off kill cam.
-Can turn off music.

I for one will definitely be pre ordering the game now, most of my initial concerns have pretty much been met.

Discuss :)

Didn't watch the whole game only caught the last half of one map, stopped watching because it was hard to decipher what was going on but thanks for bringing that up, maybe its just the hero, maybe not? As I said early days yet it'll be a while before we see if its a problem.

Yeah I've only been playing comp for 2 years which is nothing in the grand scheme of things lol, the four heavies may have been a bad example but it doesn't invalidate my point.

In regards to the 4 dvas counter, it didn't stop shit. It just stretched out the game longer than is should have, wasn't very entertaining to watch at all seeing them spawn dvas one at a time and die 20 seconds later.

Early days yet, we'll see if its as bad as I'm making out or if I'm just overreacting :)

Hey if everyone had the same opinions there wouldn't be much of a point for a discussion board ;)

The first and only instance I've seen of it so far was during one of the weekend tournaments, team NotEnigma going 4 dvas at the end of the game scurrying towards the point desperatly trying to stop overtime. I'm sure as the game progresses and the meta develops maybe it won't be as feasible but mainly I think its a product of the shit respawn system. Rather than waves of respawns you spawn one at a time which leads to that sort of gameplay, think I've seen a few "pro" players comment on this as well.

A few other "pros" from of other games (WARHURYEAH comes to mind) have also made comments on the whole no hero limitations; the argument that it slows the game down from a spectator viewpoint, I mean there is a reason the classes are limited in TF2 6s otherwise you end up with 4 heavies 2 medics cheese strats.

Enjoy your 6 hero cheese strats

The subreddit is actually worse than the tf2 one, got downvoted the other day for suggesting the putting hero limits on comp games is necessary, otherwise you get the old 6 dva last strat.

Can't wait for decent spectator tools to come out. Killfeed, health bars and some ui improvements like overall health and ultimate build percentage are definitely needed for overwatch to really kick off.

A lot of people are saying too soon but you have to realise that getting a team in early is pretty huge when it comes to esports, the alternative is waiting to see if the scene really kicks off and missing the train.

Just wondering if it tells you if you only get into the weekend beta or the full beta in the account page or something? Could anyone confirm?

Found this pretty good comment while bored at work, a very well thought out post

Many reasons, paying for heroes mean you can't have unique heroes. If only Pharah is decent at countering Widowmaker then anyone without Pharah is at a disadvantage. So instead of making heroes that have proper hard counterpicks, they have to be homogenised so no matter what heroes you have, you're not at a disadvantage. That's why Dota heroes are always so much more interesting and seem so much more overpowered than LoL champions. They're not really OP, they just have counter picks to keep them in check. Enigma's 5 second AoE channelled stun? Yeah, a simple targeted stun and it's useless. Burst damage that can kill a hero in less than a second? BKB, dealt with. Heroes behind paywalls screws with game balance and forces characters to be boring.

Second reason is it encourages the devs to make each new hero OP for a week or two to incentivise purchases. Again, paywalls screw with the game balance.

Thirdly it encourages rushing out characters whether they're ready or not or whether the game is ready for them. A dev isn't going to wait a month between releases when they can wait a week for the money and cause anyone that's not a hardcore player to spend money because they won't have enough ingame currency for it. Causes lower quality characters and, again, screws with the balance.

Fourthly the game becomes based around microtransactions. Well sure, you could grind for hours a day to get the next hero or you could just pay $5 a fortnight to stay up to date with heroes in this "free" game. Again, paywalls screw with balance.

Tl;dr: IT SCREWS WITH THE BALANCE OF THE GAME

No outright "no" response from them then, not sure why they can't just come out with a statement declaring that future heroes won't be behind a paywall.

Suspiciously after the backlash from their wording about all 21 heroes currently being free, and not saying anything about future heroes being free.

Reddits opinion of the pricing

Whats everyones various thoughts on paying for the base game and the possibility of paying for future heroes/maps? How do you think it will affect competitive play?

Can we really make comments on the way balance is when the comp scene hasn't really kicked off yet, its all well and good making tier lists but as far as I am aware each "hero" is situationally good at certain points in different maps.
