I'm just glad to see that there are people that are actively invested in making this game have a good competitive scene. I'd also rather see higher level play than a bunch of randoms playing against each other, or watch Not Enigma crush some randoms.

A tournament is good im not disputing that, but the issue I have with labeling it an invitational tournament when there is no teams at this stage that can be considered a competitive team. There is no scene it has not developed at all, the game is far too young and the amount of people in the beta is too small to already start closing off entries to invites only. In my opinion its a very naive way to build a competitive community, and these so called "randoms" could very well be better than the people you know of cant judge people's skill based on whether you know them or not.

@Bigx
The purpose of these tournaments is to test the game in a competitive format. Feedback is then given to Blizzard. I assume the feedback will be used. There is 0 prize pot. Little notoriety to be gained. You likely don't have beta, which probably sucks. But I can assure you, what FishStix is doing, is a good thing for you and the community.

As i said in the reply above, i 100% agree a tournament setting should be tested and feedback offered but closing it off from other testers is the issue I have. No i don't have beta and that makes my point far more than just a whine, if there is other competitive fps players in the beta that want to test if there is a future for overwatch in a competitive setting but cant enter them due to other testers perceived notoriety I think that is rather unhealthy for the scene before its even began.

my understanding is that it's just a label and the tournament is open to pretty much whoever's interested

there are so few players/teams in the beta that it's actually a struggle to get these cups filled -- just take a look at the wiki page for proof

Now having said all that, if it is indeed just a label that makes everything I said above rather irrelevant in this case but its still my honest opinion moving forward for the competitive growth of overwatch. The game is something im definitely looking to switch to having played pretty much every other fps competitively so I hope a thriving scene develops and doesnt die out like cough TF2 :P

An "invitational" already what the hell. I cant be the only one that sees that an laughs, why have invite only tournaments when the game is still in extremely closed beta should make it open to whoever can chuck a team together.

Nothing wrong with the price at all. Id prefer that than free to play and having to buy heroes or w/e

It seems stupid though to not get a larger player base on beta to test it before the end of the current beta and aftwards. There may be a huge gap in knowledge and skills between people in the betas and people that didnt get into it looking from a competitive esports standpoint. Obviously the gap will be there initially but in other games generally the top players in the beta end up being in the top teams when its live and thriving. Well see though.
