I honestly would have preferred it mid-season, like in the NBA, probably after the end of the last trading window thou.

in league fans from the region vote on the players they want on the all star team. i don't know how/if other esports do it though

I hope it's not that case here then you will end up with Seagull on the all-star team which will be farcical, it should be decided by people like casters/analysts who hopefully have an unbiased opinion.

Except they don't (e.g. try and check how many non-Koreans would Monte put into the all-star teams)

Why not something like:
Analysts/Caster/Coaches pick the 2 coaches.
The 2 chosen coaches pick let's say 4 men out of 12, the casters/analysts 4, and the people the remaining 4

Nah the whole fun of all star games is that it's a fan vote. They wanna see the biggest personalities, they don't really care about who's the best. And honestly, the actual match will probably not be that good regardless. I'm much more excited to see what kinda shenanigans they put together as part of the show. I'm hoping for a ctf match and some lucioball, maybe some total mayhem/no hero limits too

So having the 4 best dps throughout the OWL go head-to-head backed up by the 4 best supports and protected by the 4 best tank/flex won't be as good as a popularity contest? might as well invite Loserfuit and Stylosa along with all the other OW personalities to play on stage with the likes of Seagull and xQc in that case. A proper all-star match.
