While many recognize the nation of Belgium for their chocolates and waffles, this weekend six Belgians look to add Overwatch to that short list. Despite some of the massive talents on Team Belgium, many do not expect them to escape the group stages of Santa Monica—much less to attend BlizzCon as a member of the top eight. However, the team assembled by the Belgian committee are no slouches. This squad is poised to make waves on the back of their upset potential.
The obvious superstars of the team are Logix and SPREE, both of whom have been tied to FaZe Clan recently, be it through rumors or recent events. Logix previously established himself as one of the best Tracer players in the west during his time on Movistar Riders, and shined even more brightly during one of his last events with the team at TaKeOver 2. SPREE is another Belgian known for his slick Tracer play, but looks to slot into the flex role for this team. Whether he takes up the Tracer mantle and leaves Logix to fill in on the Soldier: 76 or whether he decides to play more offtanks to make room for his teammates, the duo will be very hard to stop.
Many consider the limiting factor on this team to be the lesser-known supporting cast. AFoxx is the most notable as a player of Vivi's Adventure, though his team failed to qualify for Overwatch Contenders Season 1 in Europe and he subsequently stepped down. baud also has a professional history given his time on the LDLC of old, but his head has mostly been out of the scene as the team collapsed several months ago. Brudor and Senpai have very little notable competitive experience in tier 1 events, but will try and take the backseat while they allow Logix and SPREE to do the heavy lifting.
The odds of an escape from the group stages are slim, but Belgium will cling to the slightest of chances. If they can use their DPS-heavy line-up to its fullest extent, Belgium might be able to grab surprise victories. However, the supporting cast must be sure to provide the proper resources and not get in the way as liabilities if any chance of victory is to be hoped for.
