While larger Overwatch LANs bar the World Cup continue to evade the community, the game returns to Finland as a part of their ASSEMBLY series on August 3rd and 4th. The relatively small LAN features mainstream talent and lesser-known players alike, with a $9,500 prizepool to back it up, suspiciously skirting under the rumored $10,000 cap!
Casting the event are Robert "hexagrams" Kirkbride and Jason "NotJeff" Kaplan, two mainstays of the competitive Overwatch scene who are both familiar with the players competing given their expansive knowledge of the competitive scene.
Competing in the tournament are the following teams:
- Rest in Pyjamas
- GamersOrigin
- ENCE eSports
- Helsinki REDS
- Aces
- Rynnäkköviikset
- Boom eSports
- Team TBA
Rest in Pyjamas enters as the favorites given their previous victory at ASSEMBLY and their qualification for Overwatch Contenders Season 1, but they will be challenged by the mass of tier 2 talent that Europe contains. The team cannot rest on their laurels for this event, especially given how they barely managed a 3-2 victory over Helsinki REDS at the last ASSEMBLY.
The prize pool is split as such:
- 1st $5,000
- 2nd $2,500
- 3rd-4th $1,000
The bracket will feature a double-elimination group stage followed by single-elimination playoffs. Matches are accelerated to fit into the schedule, so you needn't worry about downtime between games as the tournament will move at a fast pace. You can follow the action by tuning into the stream on the announced dates.
