While many players across the globe are preparing to play in the first round of the Open Division, Chinese Overwatch has undertaken an altered path in the beginning of 2018. Eight teams were invited by Blizzard to compete in the first season of Contenders Trials China, with the two day tournament concluding on the 5th of January. By finishing in the top three, SKG, Moss Seven Club, and JD-Gaming secured spots in Contenders 2018 Season 1 China.

SKG are the most well known name of three due to their participation in the Premier Series Summer, in which they placed ninth, whilst Moss Seven Club and JD-Gaming finished 3rd-4th and 2nd respectively in the Overwatch Team Story Chapter 3 in November last year. These three teams will join nine other Chinese teams in the first season of Contenders China, kicking off on the 5th of March.
