Counter Logic Gaming has announced that they will not be pursuing the Overwatch League and will be parting ways with their Overwatch roster. This comes just one day after Blizzard officially announced the 12 teams of the inaugural season had been finalized.

CLG acquired The 1 Percent, a team that was relatively unknown at the time, live at MLG Vegas back in December. The team ended up surprising many and had moderate success, although they never were able to take a tournament title back home to the CLG team house. After failing to qualify for Overwatch Contenders Season One from one of Season Zero's toughest groups, the team made a short appearance in the BEAT Invitational in July. It would be their last tournament appearance together as a team.
There was some hope that maybe the team could get into the Overwatch League when Madison Square Garden acquired a controlling stake in the team near the end of July. However, all signs pointed to the move being one to finance a franchise bid for League of Legends rather than Overwatch, especially with an OWL franchise already present in New York City.
However, CLG has not held on to its players only to leave them scrambling to find a spot in the Overwatch League near the end of the signing period. The organization has been working to find new teams for its players, as well as its coach, the last few months and has stated that some are already part of new organizations while others are having their deals finalized. With that little teaser left behind by the organization, former CLG fans can look forward to the possibility they may see their favorite players competing on new teams, maybe even teams in OWL.
