Come on BLIZZARD
Care to elaborate?
Right now there's...APEX S4, APEX S5 Challengers, OPC S2, OWPS Summer, Contenders NA/EU and a couple of SA tournaments. Granted the Asian tourneys aren't at great times for people in NA but you can still catch a match or two if you're up for it.
You may need to wait until, or after, OWL launches to see what the new Tier 2 landscape will look like but for now things have been going in a relatively predictable direction with the current embargo on Blizz tournament licenses.
CookieBeast [#8]I would say this is a great time for watching top tier overwatch in all regions
In ALL regions??? Contenders is crap. Last year we had way more tourneys and LANs, OVERWATCH OPEN. Teams would manage themselves around their own finances and performance not some dumb promise of a leage limited by insane prices and with orgs locked in to limited slots. You all are crazy if you think this is better. GGEZ

Sure bud.
Im really glad you think an online tourney is top tier entertainment and no NA lans for the 2nd year of overwatch while teams get scrambled over dumb OWL politics is great entertainment. Looks about as entertaining as playing wolrd of warcraft right now. On the plus side the game is actually fun but the pro scene could have been so much better this year. And will OWL really be the best we can get? Im down for the physical infrastructure but I'm NOT excited to see esports try to emulate real sports broadcasts any more than they already do. I mean does any one else wish that the announcers would shut the F* up every once in a while so you could hear the pitter patter of tracer first revealing herself to the enemy team. Sorry but I happen to play overwatch and I can figure out whats going on just fine with out some LOUD A, CONSTANT conversation going on in the foreground.
Involv3r [#11]Sure bud.
Thats the best you can say. Because you have NO ACTUAL LOGICAL COUNTER to what I say. Ow was way better last year. Say something else stupid please.
I know you want to argue with someone on the internet, and you obviously have some gripe to pick with the pro overwatch scene. You have the opinion that the current scene sucks, while others have the opinion that the scene is fine. We all can acknowledge it is up in the air due to OWL tryouts being the most important aspect of the scene right now, but I choose to have a positive outlook on OWL being the best of the best in the game performing on the biggest stage and I can be patient if it affects the game for a few months to build it.
Bottom line is you are welcome to your opinion and we are welcome to ours, trying to come here to argue is not going to change that. You should stick to reddit.com/r/competitiveoverwatch if you are just looking to argue on the internet.
accountseverywhere [#14]Korea has proved it having more pro teams is just better. And will the heavy leagal restrictions and entrenched teams really be the best for overwatch? I mean think about the creative metas that may not even be experimented with now. Overwatch is just getting locked down and its boring af.
Then why the fuck are you talking Overwatch on an Overwatch content related website ?
And what I said was plenty to me. Pointless talking to a brick wall.
I like how none of you have even tried to make a single logical counter argument. saying things like baby rage and sure bud and lul must be the pinnacle of your logical abilities.
This is how idiots argue I guess. gg
Either that or you have become so content and dependent on your measly entertainment that you wont even allow yourself to imagine or propose how it could be better.
Im also waiting for a decent na lan that has real teams in it not this premade world cup bullshit where teams are limited and restricted to where they came from.
its not dead. but its not what it could be. or even what it would have been if blizzard kept their hands out of it. eveything rests on the OWL
Let's start with your outward hatred for all of the current tournaments, because you don't find them "entertaining." In the past couple months, we've had OGN Apex (the premier level of Korean competition), the Pacific Championship (a great showcase for Pacific teams such as Blank or Flash wolves, most recently Ardeont), the Premiere Series (china's leading tournament), Overwatch Contenders (the main, current battleground for EU and NA players hoping to attract possible contracts to get them into the OWL), the World Cup (which has been absolutely spectacular) plus several smaller circuits around Finland, Japan, and South America. If you don't find them entertaining, then you don't have to watch them. They're not meant to be Overwatch's biggest showcase, that's what the OWL is for. All of these tournaments are for players and teams to prove themselves to hopefully get spots in the OWL. A large majority of the games that have taken place have showcased high level play in a very competitive setting, even if a large amount of Contenders is online. We don't think it's "top tier entertainment", that's not what we are watching it for. We here at over.gg love playing and watching Overwatch, and we're watching these "trash tournaments" because we care about the players, their futures, and the progression of the scene in general. If you have some sort of problem with the current Overwatch ecosystem, then stop watching. No one wants you to force your personal negativity down our throats. If this is so incredibly hard for you to understand, then you can go fuck yourself instead of complaining like a nonsensical and misinformed baby.

this is great. great actual response. i agree with all of it except the last part but whatever.
but take everything there and add to it an NA with actual lans going on where freely organized teams would have an incentive to stay together other than the limited OWL scene. all that extra scene would come at the cost of nothing because all it would take is blizzard to stop shutting it down and everything thats great about APEX and all the other tourneys going on worldwide would be made better with the promise of a stronger NA scene breeding better players and teams some of which would go to trouneys like APEX and make it really exciting and give us an idea of how the multi national scenes stack up against eachother. esports is strong enough now to grow like traditional sports but that doesnt mean we should abandon its roots in many independent organizations coming together and often thriving off of only peoples love of the game not just money and entrenchment and restrictions.
You're not understanding the purpose of the future of Overwatch eSports. It's not going to be like CSGO, or Dota, or LoL. It's going to be new, and different, and exciting, because nothing in eSports has ever been done like this before. There's not going to be so many LANs with freely organized teams, because the only true goal for any aspiring Overwatch player is going to be the OWL, which is a Blizzard-run LEAGUE for the very best of the elite. Overwatch is never going to be like it was in 2016, the whole point is that it's changing that classic eSports format: season here, tournament there, LAN there, championship here, etc. We're not abandoning our eSports roots, we're growing them.
And that's not to say that there won't be an extra scene. Contenders will be there for tier-2 EU/NA teams. Same goes for APEX, the Premiere Series, etc. And then below that is the Open division and all the amateur leagues, building up new generations of players that will one day climb their way into the Overwatch League. It's a whole ecosystem.
I'm done debating this with you. If you have a problem with the current scene, then don't watch it. If you're even slightly willing to be patient and let the OWL actually start, then listen to what Sideshow said and wait a year. If you feel there's still a problem with the scene, come on back and prove me wrong.

i just hope that ecosystem is worth what we lost by outlawing a year and probably more of NA lans. teams that disbanded that I really liked and may have had a chance to stay together given a more active NA scene. i mean great the whole picture looks great but why throw out free additions to it? those additions would have made it stronger. Even if they are not part of blizzards picture more competition and incentive and a thriving scene just add more to the rest.
