With the recent news that Blizzard has hired MLG to head overwatch programs. I was questioning one thing in blizzards statement. They said that MLG would be in charge of marketing. In the statement it said that there would be a network of some sorts for streaming, news, etc. But it also said that it would also be the home for the Call of Duty World League. This is were its just my thought of what is going to happen.
So since the Call of Duty World League has been around for a year. I did some research and found that most of the matches are streamed on MLG.TV. But then it started to concern me that the so called "network" blizzard is talking about is actually MLG.TV. The sad part is that Overwatch would most likely be on the same network. But the thing is, overwatch had already been on MLG.TV before. It was on there when MLG Las Vegas was happening. The thing that's disappointing is that Call of Duty was beating Overwatch in leadership. Now give the Call of Duty stream only had 28k viewers. Overwatch only reached a max of 13k viewers. This was for a big lan event.
I wouldn't care for the numbers if it was normal but if it was on twitch overwatch could've blown the Call of duty viewership out of the water. Just think the most recent Alienware Montly Melee had over 35k viewers at one point. This was for a online tournament. But I guess my main point is that Overwatch is not meant to be streamed on MLG.TV. It has already grown a fan base on twitch so why mess that up.
But this is just a concern I thought about while reading the article about what blizzard and MLG are doing. Please feel free to tell me what you think and or if I'm just crazy l.
