In October 2016, Fnatic decided to remove their McCree star iddqd from the active roster, replacing him with a rising talent from European team NWA, Hafficool. After almost three months on trial with Fnatic, Hafficool has now signed his contract with the top North American side and become a permanent fixture.
Hafficool has played at two LANs for Fnatic as an unsalaried trial player, helping the team place in the semifinals of both DreamHack Winter and MLG Vegas. He also attended MSI MGA with the team in December but - as with every team there - Fnatic were victims of the technical difficulties and could not compete. The team also qualified for NGE Winter Premiere before dropping out due to scheduling conflicts with APEX Season 2.
He was originally noticed by Fnatic as a star flex dps in an upcoming European team, NWA. The team also featured SPREE, now of Luminosity, and evokje and Veineless, now of Dignitas.
Hafficool is known for his vast hero pool depth, able to perform on Genji and Mei along with a spread of hitscan heroes as well. Joining Fnatic saw him shift away from even the dps role, performing on D.Va to a world-class standard, and his flexibility offers the team many options.
The contract and his permanent position in the team was formalised just before Fnatic flew out to Korea this week. They will be playing in OGN APEX Season 2 alongside EnVyUs, Cloud9, Misfits, and 12 top Korean teams.
Hafficool and Fnatic will be playing in Group D alongside Kongdoo Panthera, RunAway, and Flash Lux. Their first game begins on Friday, January 20th against KD Panthera.
The roster for Fnatic is:
- Casey "buds" McIlwaine (DPS)
- Hafþór "Hafficool" Hákonarson (Flex DPS)
- Matthew "coolmatt69" Iorio (Flex)
- Warsi Faraaz "Stoop" Waris (Tank)
- Scott "custa" Kennedy (Flex Support)
